Hi I love the name Iris and it has a special family meaning.... I am pregnant with my
3rd daughter, and I’m thinking of calling her Iris. I’m stuck on a middle name though.

It is Iris-Olivia or Iris Indie-Rea at the moment. Both go with our surname. Please let me know your thoughts I haven’t got long to go....

I love Iris. I have a little cousin with the name but it's not overly popular so that's good too.

I like iris olivia

Thank you 😊, Iris Olivia is what I’m leaning towards at the moment and as you say I like that it’s not over popular.

What is your little cousins middle name (if you don’t mind me asking), as I haven’t heard Iris too much I’m not sure what other names might go with it?

I love Iris and Iris Olivia is really nice (no hyphen)

Kanga83 · 26/05/2019 10:51

Agree with other poster. Iris Olivia sounds classy and will suit a grown up (I always say think how the name will sound on a CV). No hyphen.

RainbowMe · 26/05/2019 10:52

Iris is such a pretty name! Especially Iris Olivia. I do love floral names and that one is classic yet a little bit unusual. Lovely choice.

LoafofSellotape · 26/05/2019 10:52

Really beautifulSmile

Mumof1andacat · 26/05/2019 10:59

Iris -that was my grandma's name :)

PotatoCity · 26/05/2019 11:02

I think it’s gorgeous!

I think a middle name starting with a vowel works well, Olivia goes really nicely.

I also like

Love Iris. Less keen on Olivia.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/05/2019 11:04

It’s beautiful. Love Iris Evelyn!

Sexnotgender · 26/05/2019 11:04

Please don’t give a hyphenated name, Iris on its own is so lovely.

wheresmymojo · 26/05/2019 11:10

I like Iris Olivia but without the hyphen.

1Willow23 · 26/05/2019 11:22

Thank you for your replies 😊 and suggestions. I’m feeling quite positive about Iris Olivia now...

OH wants to hyphenate it as he wants a name he can shorten, and I don’t think Iris can be shortened. Any thoughts? ....

He calls our other girls by shortened versions of their full names so wants to do the same with this daughter.

Other daughter likes the alternative of Iris Olivia-Rea thoughts?

Iris is lovely but please don’t hyphenate, it’s awful and chavvy. If he wants to be able to shorten it to Iris, just call her Iris! No need to shoehorn a nickname in. Or go for Irry or Issy for short or something.

Beautiful name, I'd go with Olivia as a middle name, no hyphen

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 26/05/2019 11:39

Iris Olivia is lovely! But definitely no hyphen - to many people hyphens cheapen a name (rightly or wrongly) but without a hyphen it sounds classy and lovely

Sexnotgender · 26/05/2019 11:41

Olivia-Rea is dreadful.

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 12:29

Really sorry but hyphenating names has a very strong class association - unemployed etc. I’m not saying don’t do it, just be aware that’s how it looks.

bridgetreilly · 26/05/2019 12:34

Hyphenated middle names is utterly pointless.

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 12:34

I met an Iris who’s nickname was Rissa

Pinkvoid · 26/05/2019 13:17

Iris is great. I wouldn’t hyphenate it at all but Iris is definitely the stronger name of the two.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 26/05/2019 13:20

Also should add, Rea really reminds me of diarrea (I know I spelt that wrong!)

Iris is gorgeous but shortening it to Irry is made - that just sounds dreadful. Why shorten a beautiful, 4 letter, 2 syllable name and make it go from beautiful made-up and weird sounding?

kenandbarbie · 26/05/2019 13:24

Iris Olivia not the other option
