Posey or Billie?

Pose34 · 25/05/2019 01:00

Currently going through ivf and now in the 2ww. But we have been brain storming names for the future as a way to help us through the tough times and something positive.

These are the names we love for little girls, please give your honest opinions on them.

Posey (poh-zee) Juliette
Billie Adeline (add-a-line)

We also love: Etta, Vivienne, Violet, Jolie, River & Ettie

Thanks!

Posey Juliette

Staryskies · 25/05/2019 09:39

I like the name Posey on a child, it's cute but I'm not keen on names that sound cute because eventually these children become adults that want to be taken seriously. But i like Vivienne, Violet and Jolie, Adeline and Juliette would also makd nice first names

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2019 10:24

It's usually spelled Posy. I don't hate it, but it feels more of a nickname than an actual name to me. Mind you, so does Billie.

BlueMerchant · 25/05/2019 10:29

Vivienne is by far the best.
Posey is a big no. Makes my skin crawl.

afterashowerr · 25/05/2019 11:03

Posey is lovely, I like it as a nickname for Josephine.

eddiestanleys · 25/05/2019 11:09

Posey was one of the Flumps - Posey, Pootle and Perkin

freshstartnewme · 25/05/2019 11:14

Billie just sounds 50ish man Billy to me I'm afraid.

Posey is nice but I would be worried that she would constantly be referred to as 'Rosie posey'

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 25/05/2019 11:18

Posey isn't great, neither is Billie imo.
But Adeline, Vivienne and Violet are beautiful names!
Good luck with the 2ww OP all the best! Smile

Clownfish123 · 25/05/2019 12:47

I really like Posy. I'm not brave enough to use it as I worry about the 'being taken seriously' thing that everyone always mentions. I wouldn't think twice about an adult Posy though, seems fine to me.

Proseccofuelled · 25/05/2019 13:12

Vivienne & Juliet are lovely & classy

MikeUniformMike · 25/05/2019 13:22

Posy is the way to spell it, not Posey. Posy is a small bouquet of flowers, Posey is affected and pretentious.
Prefer Billie.

Theredjellybean · 25/05/2019 13:29

Posie is the old english shortening of Josephine , so you could call a daughter Josephine and use Posie as a childhood nickname , she can then stay as Posie or use Josephine as an adult ( if becomes editor of the Times or head of bank of england for example)

Botanica · 25/05/2019 13:45

I really feel for kids given cutesie names and having to then try and navigate a successful high flying career with them.

I mean, could you envisage a prime minister or industry leader called Posey?

I wonder whether parents just don't have any aspirations for their future children. Why shackle then with a hindrance from day 1?

happyhillock · 25/05/2019 13:48

Posey is awful
I've alway's loved the name Vivienne

EmpressLesbianInChair · 25/05/2019 14:01

I used to think of Posy/ey/ie as twee & childish until Posie Parker.

Who is as kickarse as women get.

sincethereis · 25/05/2019 14:07

Posy/posey is very bad. I can imagine a grown up hating being called that. I think of it as posing all the time/pretentious/self-absorbed

daisypond · 25/05/2019 14:13

I don’t see that Posy is any worse than Fleur or Flora. It’s the same word more or less. And equally similar to Lily, etc. Nor is it a twee diminutive like Rosie.

Veterinari · 25/05/2019 14:20

I don’t really like the name Posy but if you’re going to use it, at least spell it right I.e. a posy of flowers

GraceMarks · 25/05/2019 14:33

My mum has a friend known as Posie, but it's short for Rosemary! She's certainly not a little girl, but she's quite feisty and strong-willed - it would be a rather twee name if she was a shy, retiring type.

I like Billie, again I would think of it as being a nickname. Billie Piper and Billie Holiday both have/had completely different real names.

Vivienne is the nicest if your other choices.

SilverySurfer · 25/05/2019 14:35

Don't really like either but Posey is awful.

Ohyesiam · 25/05/2019 14:37

I think that for a child or young person tobecalledBillie, they need to be good looking to carry it off.
Imagine being lumpen and plain , having a “ boys name” on top of that could be really unpleasant.
Trust me, I speak from experience.

I love Adeline and Violet but im not fussed on any of the others.

I really don't like Etta or Billie.

Pearlfish · 25/05/2019 15:18

I like Posy (I'd spell it without the e personally). Not keen on Billie.

I also like Juliette and Etta from your list.

HJWT · 25/05/2019 15:22

My DN watches a family on YT (The Labrants I think) they have a baby called Posey! I don't know It kind of makes me cringe a bit but those types of names are more popular in America! I like Ettie xx
