Our 1.5yr old is named Aria and we are expecting baby girl number 2 in few months time but struggling with names this time around!

One name both hubby and I really like is Erin but I’m worried it’s too similar to Aria and not sure the names sound nice together?

I’ve said it together inside my head so many times now that it just sounds weird to me!

I don't think they are very similar, just both quite vowel-y, which is not a negative. I think they work together.

I think they work well together. I feel as though there's enough distinction between the sounds in their names.

Sounds fine to me :)

I like it. Different number of syllables, different first initials, different endings - all good.

desparate4sleep · 25/05/2019 09:27

Both lovely but yes they sound too similar to me.

DuchessOfAdler · 25/05/2019 09:28

I dontike this combination. Same sounds.

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2019 10:26

They don't sound similar at all!

Ah-ree-a
Eh-rin

They both have an 'r' sound. That's all they have in common.

kunderscorej · 25/05/2019 11:51

I love them both, and they sound good together, not too similar. They were both on DD shortlist.

Proseccofuelled · 25/05/2019 13:20

Sound good together to me

For those not hearing the similarity - imagine if you changed the last letter of Erin & got:

Ah - ree - a
Air - ree - a

I don’t think they are too similar though because the N changes the sound of Erin completely

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2019 13:42

But it's not Air - in, it's more like Eh-rin.
And it's not Air-ree-a, it's Ah - ree-ah.

I think you really have to stretch to find similarity.

Wow thanks all for the great and detailed feedback! First time posting and massively grateful!

Sounds like there are more for than against on the whole. With the sounds, I agree they are different enough and it’s just something about the ‘rrr’ sound when said together that I think is what’s bothering me, but maybe I’m overthinking!

Presumably though, when I have two my life will revolve around e.g. “Aria and Erin” so guess it’s worth thinking of how it sounds!
