Would say Amelia and Isabella are the most timeless (very popular though) trendy at the moment would be Zara & Lara

steppemum · 19/05/2019 16:53

Some depends on what you mean by popular too.

dd1 is 14, and Sophie/Sophia and Isabella/Isabelle/Isobel were the no1 and 2 names when she was born. dd2 is 11, and Olivia was top then.

Younger kids seem to be Mia, Maia, Maya and Isla.

It changes remarkable quickly I think

Mia- trendy
Ella- timeless
Lily- timeless and beautiful!
Sophia- trendy
Amelia- trendy
Olivia- trendy
Isabella- timeless
Maia- trendy
Lara- neither
Sara- neither
Zara- neither
Isla- trendy

I think Olivia/Mia/Isla/Amelia and such will become the Sharon and Tracy of the future generations. There’s so many of them, they’re going to date dreadfully I think because Olivia and Amelia have been immensely popular for a number of years

PuppyMonkey · 19/05/2019 17:03

Lily has been around a while - like centuries. I think that’s a keeper.

Olivia is massively overused now but will probably stand the twat of time.

The jury’s out on the rest imho.

  • the TEST of time. Grin
Moominfan · 19/05/2019 17:07

Mia dog name, the rest really popular usually with something hyphenated tacked on

MikeUniformMike · 19/05/2019 17:33

Sophia has been around for centuries but not that long ago it seemed like every baby girl I knew was called it.
Ella is timeless as a shortened version of something ending in ella.

Darcie and Ava are my Sharon and Tracey names.

PunkAssMoFo · 19/05/2019 17:52

Mia- fairly timeless, but not boring
Ella- timeless, but a bit meh
Lily- timeless, but overused and has become a little downmarket
Sophia- timeless, very popular
Amelia - timeless, overused at the minute
Olivia- timeless, overused, a bit dull
Isabella - timeless, completely overdone
Maia - timeless and trendy
Lara - timeless, fine
Sara - timeless, fine
Zara - timeless, fab
Isla - too popular at the minute

I quite like Tia too!

AuntMarch · 19/05/2019 18:06

I am the only person I can remember from school with any of these names

Aurea · 19/05/2019 18:09

If you like a Scottish name similar to Isla, why not consider Morven, Mairi, Emilia or Fenella.

outvoid · 19/05/2019 18:46

Mia - it is an old school name but it’s sadly very common now.
Ella - same as above
Lily- common
Sophia - timeless and not overly common imo, Sophie is more common
Amelia - very common
Olivia - think it’s the top girls name but I haven’t personally met many and I teach
Isabella - timeless, love it. Don’t think it’ll ever go out of fashion
Maia - never met one
Lara - only met one when I was in secondary school years ago. Not common but wouldn’t say timeless either
Sara - not a fan but not common
Zara - not common or timeless either
Isla - very common atm and I think it’s a faddy name that will eventually go out of fashion

Favourite is Isabella
