"High Court judge" names - the current ones

Playing around on the MN baby name finder during a tea break and was interested to see the names suggested as 'high court judge' names as I didn't think any of them were actually the names of real High Court judges in England and Wales at the moment (work in related area). Though obviously they are what we think the names of the future judges will be...

So... because I was very bored, here are the actual names of the current High Court judges! Brackets are what they are known as if the name given isn't the one they use.

Female:
Alison
Amanda
Beverley
Christina
Elisabeth
Finola
Geraldine
Gwyneth
Ingrid
Jane (Clare)
Jennifer
Johanna
Judith x 2
Juliet
Justine
Lucy
Maura
Nathalie
Nerys
Parmjit-Kaur (Bobbie)
Philippa
Sara
Sarah
Sue

Male:
Akhlaq
Alastair x 2
Andrew x 4
Anthony x 2
Antony
Christopher x 2
Clive x 2
Colin
David x 3
Edward x 2
Gerald
Henry
Ian
James x 3
Jeremy x 2
Jonathan x 2
Joseph
Julian x 2
Marcus
Mark x 2
Martin
Matthew
Michael x 2
Neil
Nicholas x 2
Nigel x 2
Paul
Paul (James)
Peter x 2
Peter (Nicholas)
Peter (Richard)
Philip
Richard x 3
Robert x 2
Robin x 2
Roderick
Simon x 2
Stephen x 4
Timothy x 2
William

Any surprises? I think the male ones are broadly as I was expecting (although surprised at the variety - was expecting 6 x William, David and George)

The female names - while all being pretty indicative of a certain background - also have a lot more variety than I was expecting! Thought there'd be more Janes/Sarahs. Though obviously there's fewer of them (whole other thread!).

Interesting that there are no Teddies, Poppys or Billys!

LarkDescending · 17/05/2019 17:26

I'm resisting the temptation to speculate on who might soon be added to this list!

Proseccofuelled · 17/05/2019 21:42

This is quite cool great thread

'Interesting that there are no Teddies, Poppys or Billys!'

Check the lists in another 40 years and there may well be.

titchy · 17/05/2019 22:02

Well High Court Judges have been practising for what 20+ years? So will have been born no later than the 1970s. So the names just reflect what was popular then surely? Only two obviously Asian names though. Hopefully that'll change.

OhMsBeliever · 17/05/2019 22:13

They're pretty much the names of people I went to school with. In 20 years time you never know, there might be a Jayden there.

Not my Jayden though, I've made sure he knows his place and frequently remind him that Mumsnet says he'll never be a high court judge. Grin

LarkDescending · 17/05/2019 22:17

The youngest of them were born in 1970 (three of them).

sparklysunflower · 17/05/2019 22:57

What about Kevin or Sharon? They were popular in the 1960s?

titchy · 17/05/2019 23:03

Not my Jayden though, I've made sure he knows his place and frequently remind him that Mumsnet says he'll never be a high court judge.

Glad to hear it Grin

Thallo · 17/05/2019 23:06

Well why do you think people who were born to working class families in the 1960s don't appear to be massively represented among the lists of high court judges?

OhTheRoses · 17/05/2019 23:07

Fast forward 25 years:

Alice
Imogen
Francesca
Eleanor
Cicely
Georgia
Sophie

Louis
Oscar

I know the Akhlaq in question, and he is a lovely man.

You should really include the Supremes, in case Brenda makes a comeback.

Tillygetsit · 17/05/2019 23:51

Brenda wasnt in the Supremes. That was Diana Ross Grin

Proseccofuelled · 18/05/2019 08:15

Jayden Confused

It’s a posh names of old people list of course but it is disappointingly white sounding - although maybe that will improve as these are probably 50/60+ (?)

OhTheRoses · 18/05/2019 08:24

Indeed they are a bunch of old gimmers.
