Seren

We're not Welsh (DP has a Welsh grandfather though), but I really like it.

What do you others think of Seren as a name? We have a DS (Jude) already...do they go nicely together?

This was going to be ds1’s name if he was a girl. The name of his dads ex girlfriend in school, who was also a friend of mine and an absolute sweet heart. We both loved the name and associated it with a lovely person. Then we found out we were having a ds!!

Oh and Seren is very popular around here now!

And I’m going back 20 odd years- and we only knew our one then!

It was top of our list for our second DC, but we had a boy!

I know a lovely Seren who goes by Rennie which is sweet.

The only Seren I know has an older brother called Jude so they do seem to go together.

I adore it! My daughter’s name is Russian and we have no Russian heritage. I just liked it!

It doesn’t rhyme with heron, though. That’s exactly the problem you’ll get with the pronunciation.

It's a beautiful name but I don't get this thing about names going together. I just named mine and didn't consider how they sounded when called or written together. I just made sure their initials didn't spell anything stupid or rude.

It isn't a name I'd go for as a Welsh speaker, just like I wouldn't call someone "Star" as an English speaker, too. It's on par with "Cariad" (love). Names are a very personal decision though.

It's Ser-en, like "seven" without he v but with a rolled r.

It pronounced se-ren. As it's spelt. It would have been my grandson's middle name if he'd been a girl.

We loved Seren for DD2, but when we tested it on DD1 (always worth checking your toddler isn't going to inadvertently say something rude when attempting to pronounce a sibling's name), the conversation went like this:

"DD, can you say Seren?"

Short pause, followed by, "Seren duck, QUACK"

We didn't go for it in the end but I thought it was hilarious at the time

How about Stella? Means the same thing.

Beautiful name and it does sound good with Jude.

Not sure about how Stella would scan with an 'er' surname. It might sound a little bit twee but that's probably just me!

It's awful.
It is the welsh word for star, and is pronounced SERR-enn.
I'd say it was the new Shannon.
Cariad is even worse.
