I've seen this name crop up a few times recently so I was just wondering...Do you think it's ready for a comeback? What sort of girl do you think of when you think of Maxine?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sparklysunflower · 15/05/2019 19:06

I like it. Strong yet feminine and works well in most languages.

MikeUniformMike · 15/05/2019 19:18

It is fine, but on here you will get lots of references to Maxine Carr. I'd think Maxine Peake or Max Zuckerberg but she's just Max.

Pegaroo · 15/05/2019 21:51

Wouldn’t be my choice, but there is nothing wrong with it and it is heaps better than the spate of girls who have been named Maxwell

SkintAsASkintThing · 15/05/2019 21:53

Prefer Max.

Maxine immediately makes me think of Maxine Carr..........silly, I know.

NuffSaidSam · 15/05/2019 21:56

I don't like it.

But it made me think of Aunty Maxine who was (and probably still is) unhinged. And loved a floral print, on every piece of clothing, all mismatched. It just screams 'mad old aunt' to me.

Zampa · 15/05/2019 21:59

Unexpectedly (to myself) I love it!

Wouldn't have gone to the Carr reference myself but others will as proved here.

Mac47 · 15/05/2019 22:02

Your title immediately made me think of:
Just cos she dances gogo,
It don't make her a ho, no
Maxine with the red shoes on, we go down to the disco.
We're gonna e-e-elope, to Mexico,
Call up my momma say I'm in love with a stripper yo.
Apologies to Maxines and the singer who I can't remember...

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 15/05/2019 22:03

I think it’s very cool, in a retro kind of way.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/05/2019 22:04

I think of squeaky Ashley off Corrie saying ‘Maxime’.

And Maxine Carr.

Quintella · 15/05/2019 22:07

Maxine, Christine, Pauline etc. are probably 10-20 years away from a revival. But a revival they'll have!

WednesdaySpinner · 15/05/2019 22:07

@Mac47 it is Wyclef Jean. Just in case you wanted to rush out and purchase said song.....

I am instantly reminded of Maxine from Corrie, I don’t hate the name but I don’t love it either.

L1nkedOut · 15/05/2019 22:07

I like it but ................ Maxine Carr (and I'm not even in the UK)

Cool!

Mac47 · 15/05/2019 22:09

:) cheers Wednesday!

doodlejump1980 · 15/05/2019 22:10

The only one I know is a horrid lying bully. So it’s a no from me

PlatypusLeague · 15/05/2019 22:14

I'm not that keen but Maxina is OK.

Twixes · 15/05/2019 22:24

I like it. Very french!

HPLikecraft · 15/05/2019 23:22

I think it's a great name!

BasiliskStare · 16/05/2019 01:36

I wouldn't have remembered Maxine Carr - but it would make me think of Maxine Peake - so all good in my book if you like it

dreichuplands · 16/05/2019 03:48

It wasn't my first thought but I did think of Maxine Carr

Calixtine · 16/05/2019 07:49

I like it a lot! Uncommon, retro, and I like the nickname Max for a girl.

twattymctwatterson · 16/05/2019 08:21

Children born now will have no idea who Maxine Carr was. I'm not hugely keen but I think like a pp says it will have a revival- just not yet (similar to my own name).

It's a bit 80s.

daisypond · 16/05/2019 08:42

I like it

MummyBear2352 · 16/05/2019 09:49

Makes me think of 2 broke girls it’s the name of one of the people in it . I think its nice .
