All lovely but I particularly like Cecelia and Etta.

Alena92 · 14/05/2019 15:31

Margot- nice! Margot Robbie is a great person to share a name with!
Olive- absolutely vile (sorry!!)
Cecelia (Cece)- it’s a definite no and absolutely no with the nickname! Also reminds me of Atonement
Matilda- lovely though quite popular I think
Etta- Spanish terrorist group. Largely unheard of in recent years but if they begin to launch attacks again, you might regret naming your girl Etta
Florence- bit drab

Marty93 · 14/05/2019 16:03

Margot - nice, but getting popular since Margot Robbie :)

Olive - cute, but reminds me of a 90 year old!

Cecelia (Cece) - not keen

Matilda - love - Matti for short!

Etta - love - very unusual these days !

Florence - cute. Would probably be shortened to Flo. Which is also very cute !

NuffSaidSam · 14/05/2019 16:12

Florence and Matilda are both lovely, but not 'timeless'. They're both very popular now, having been hardly used 10/15 years ago. This means they will date.

I like Olive a lot, but it's very close to Olivia which is also very popular. It's been no.1 for about 10 years I think.

Margot is lovely and underused.

Cecelia (Cece) - sweet, underused also.

I don't like Etta. It just doesn't seem like a complete name...it's more like a noise!

manicinsomniac · 14/05/2019 16:30

I love Matilda and Etta.

Pegaroo · 14/05/2019 16:45

Love them all except olive and Etta.

I have a Margot

rachelgrace · 14/05/2019 16:47

Florence or Margot are my favourites

Flamingosnbears · 14/05/2019 16:50

I Have a Matilda so obviously that's the best😁
Margot - good prefer Margaux spelling as Margot reminds me of Maggot
Olive - love the retro vibe with this also the symbolic meaning
Cecelia (Cece) - like the Nn choice, good to grow up with
Etta - too Nicknamey imo
Florence - sweet prefer Flora

SE13Mummy · 14/05/2019 16:54

Florence, Margot and Olive are my favourites from your list. All of the names are reasonably popular at the moment but not overused - I've yet to come across more than one of each in a class at school. I prefer names that don't end in an 'uh' or 'ee' sound, hence my shortlist.

DiscoZebra · 14/05/2019 16:55

I particularly like Etta, but maybe as a nn for Henrietta rather than by itself? Either way, I think it's very elegant and pretty, as well as timeless. Matilda is getting very common now, and there are generally thousands of Olivia's as well. Doesn't stop them from being nice names but if you're looking for more unusual ones maybe not them.

Rainandwine · 14/05/2019 17:24

What do you mean by timeless? Only that list are exceptionally ‘now’ names meaning they will sound like Colin / Barbara etc to the next generation - so to me the opposite of timeless.

Or do you mean classic?

Rainandwine · 14/05/2019 17:28

If I’ve uploaded this correctly.....this should show how the name will definitely be linked to a specific age group - it’s not something that bothered me & I love the name Matilda anyway - but in case it’s something you don’t want.

@Rainandwine - something classic

OP posts:
Rainandwine · 14/05/2019 17:33

This is the only name I can think of that could be described as timeless

Rainandwine · 14/05/2019 17:36

Oops it didn’t load - Elizabeth - but if that’s not what you’re after then there are probably lots of beautiful classics to choose from. My favourites are:
Olivia
Matilda
Martha (I met one nn Marnie which I thought was adorable)
Jemima
Susannah

Zoeputthatdown · 14/05/2019 17:38

This is difficult: Cecelia is pretty but imo Margot just pips the rest.

Rainandwine · 14/05/2019 17:40

I love Etta but I’m a Jazz fan - not sure I’d be cool / brave enough to use it as a full name so I’d probably go for something like Juliet / Henrietta / Bernadette / Claudette / Odette

MikeUniformMike · 14/05/2019 19:44

None of the names on your list are timeless.

villamariavintrapp · 14/05/2019 19:49

I like Olive. And not Etta because I just think of the terrorist group.

Pixilicious · 14/05/2019 20:00

Margot or Cecelia

PlatypusLeague · 14/05/2019 20:31

Cecilia or Florence

tdam · 15/05/2019 00:36

I absolutely love Margot, Olive and Matilda and lime Florence. I was actually seriously considering Matilda for my daughter due in July but it's become much too popular in Australia unfortunately.

MercyBodle · 15/05/2019 01:12

My favourites are Matilda and Florence. I think Margot and Cecelia (which are also nice) are the most timeless. Other than Margot and Cecelia I think the others will date to this decade ( and previous times 100 years ago) when they were in fashion.

Icklepup · 15/05/2019 15:04

Like Cecilia and Etta!

Icklepup · 15/05/2019 15:05

Oops wrong spelling
