hi- previously made thread 'sister for Violet', and after a lot of lovely suggestions, nothing beat Ingrid or Amelie!
I prefer Amelie but DH prefers Ingrid, but we can't decide on one!
also, I forgot to mention she's four days old and I'm feeling a bit stressed because she needs a name Blush
Big sister is Violet.
Which do you prefer and why? thank you x

Amelie

Ingrid is horrible

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 12/05/2019 16:34

Ingrid without a doubt, it's so strong and classy.
I am old enough to remember Ingrid Bergman however so this obviously colours my view.
Amelie far too over used

FartnissEverbeans · 12/05/2019 18:18

Ingrid is a badass name. I’d like to be called Ingrid cos I’m badass too

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2019 18:46

Ingrid. I don't like Amelie and there are lots of Amelie/Emilys around.

TurquoiseAndPurple · 12/05/2019 18:51

For some reason Ingrid reminds me of an ingrown toe nail 😂 no idea why. But to me it's one of the ugliest names so I'm surprised by the number of people who like it! Amelie is much prettier and goes with a Violet. I'd be fuming if my mum named me Ingrid if my sister has a pretty name like Violet.

Icklepup · 12/05/2019 18:55

I commented on the other thread but I was hoping you'd choose Ingrid as I just think it fits Violet perfectly!

Violet and Ingrid :)

GrumbleBumble · 12/05/2019 18:58

Ingrid. I think Amelie will date pretty quickly.

Clownfish123 · 12/05/2019 19:00

Ingrid just isn't a nice name. I would hate to be called Ingrid. Amelie is lovely, will date though.

Greggers2017 · 12/05/2019 19:01

My 11 year old is Amelie, named when it wasn't so popular and her step-sister on her dads side is Violet. They go so nicely together.

Ingrid is a name bullies will pick up on. My ex in laws are of German heritage and all have very harsh sounding names and all kids pick on their names. Unfortunately some kids are horrible.

MrsBertBibby · 12/05/2019 19:05

Ingrid by a country mile. Strong, sophisticated, serious. Takes no shit. Doesn't have to because people don't give her shit.

Amelie is a name for a fragile fluffy girl who will thrive on male attention.

Greggers2017 · 12/05/2019 19:32

Ha people saying Amelie is a wet name and for a fluffy girl. 😂
My Amelie is goalkeeper in the local junior football team and plays rugby and street dances.
She's just gone out on her skateboard with her mates too!

Sophronia · 12/05/2019 23:46

Ingrid

DramaAlpaca · 12/05/2019 23:54

Ingrid, by a long way.

Amelie only sounds nice if you happen to have a French accent.

Someone upthread suggested Astrid as a 50/50 mix of the two, and I think so too.

Rainandwine · 13/05/2019 00:06

Astrid is such a cool mix of both

girlsname · 13/05/2019 00:21

Amelie, and despite what people say- it's hardly 'common' as it's only number 72 in popularity.

Ingrid just sounds really harsh and not very pretty for a girl

IfNotNow1 · 13/05/2019 00:27

Astrid. Makes me think of Pippi Longstocking.

Christmassaussage · 13/05/2019 00:29

I wouldn't go for either.

I nearly named my daughter Amelia rose because I love the name but it's too common.

My mother's name was Ingrid. She wasn't a nice person - but we nearly went for Isabelle.

In the end we named her Jennifer! We were 10 days late deciding on a name so don't let anyone rush you. Most royal babies take a while to be named too so don't worry about it! Go with whatever but bully proof it including any initials the names spell!

MercyBodle · 13/05/2019 02:22

I much prefer Ingrid - great name!

MercyBodle · 13/05/2019 02:25

Just to add reasons, Ingrid is strong, smart and individual, and suits all ages, and is not over-used, and is very easy to spell and pronounce.
Amelie is nice enough, but softer and frillier and would only suit some people whereas I feel anyone could be an Ingrid. It's also more popular and would tend to date to a particular decade more.

YemenRoadYemen · 13/05/2019 02:51

Wow, they are such different names!

I would choose Ingrid, as Amelie has well and truly had its day (trying to be nice).

I have a friend who pronounces it In-grid, as opposed to Ing-grid, in case that influences you.

Like others, I was also going to suggest Astrid.

HeronLanyon · 13/05/2019 02:58

Ingrid is an amazing name. Love it.
However I think it doesn’t sit well with violet. With the two names it sounds more plain/harder iyswim.
Amelie - not fond of it. Twee. Pretty but cutesy.
Good luck op.
What about Astrid ?

HeronLanyon · 13/05/2019 02:59

Sorry missed other Astrid suggestions. It’s a good idea eh ?

Joeybee · 13/05/2019 03:05

Ingrid. Love the name Ingrid and it's so underused.

Amelie is a bit too popular, it's sound a a bit boring to me now and too cutesy.

Aomame83 · 13/05/2019 03:12

Definitely Ingrid. It's a strong name and unusual without being weird.

If you go with Amelie, she'll just be one of many variations in her class, Amelia, Amelie, Emily etc...
I loved Amelie years ago because of the movie, but it's just everywhere. The name Ingrid has popped up on our baby girl name list for in a few months time.

BrightOink · 13/05/2019 03:21

Amelie. The couple that I know (not common around here, most likely hear of Emilia / Lily/ Milly) are absolutely lovely. Fiery, confident, popular. Suited them as they've grown. 1 prefers 'Ammie' as a nn, 1 is 'Meelie/Meels'
