Just wondering what your thoughts were on Astrid for a girl

Azzy is a cool nickname! The one thing that put me off Astrid is the lack of nickname but that's a good one. Love the name Astrid.

I'm going against the grain here to say that I don't like it I think it's really ugly-sounding!

We have an Astrid. We call her asteroid 😍 or a sort of made up name which was what she called herself when she was learning to to speak.
Very much depends where you live as I have only come across one other Astrid (in real life, seen some on tv etc) since having her four years ago, and that was last week.
The main issue we have with it is people mishearing it as Ashley or similar, mainly because she is the first one people have met. A few people asked us how we made it up and were surprised that it was a real name.
A midwife thought we were calling her Asterix. I can imagine the chat in the staff room

Oh and Ikea have a range called Arstid

Really dislike it. Would go so far as to say it's an ugly name.

I'd put it in the same category as Gertrude.

One of my all time favourite girls names. Was on my list for DD but DH vetoed it

Definitely depends where you live, I'm up north, go to lots of baby and toddler groups and haven't met a single Astrid yet.

I have an Astrid. My parents and PIL don't like it but most other people seem to like it (or they are not rude enough to say they hate it to my face )

In terms of popularity there were 122 born in 2017 in England and Wales which made it the 376th most popular name so there's almost zero chance of there being 3 in a class. I think it's highly likely to have risen in popularity in 2018 but not to top 10 level. I do find that when people are first introduced to dd they say to me something along the line of 'my friend's cousin has just had an Astrid' I. E they know of an Astrid rather than having actually met one. I didn't have this with my eldest dc so I do find this odd and therefore assume it is becoming more popular.

It's true that names can be common in a certain area and by default people then think they are popular. I know 3 Clementines within the same village - it's only slightly more popular than Astrid. This area is also completely overrun with Imogens but I've never come across any Mias, or Lily's in my area despite 4 years worth of playgroups etc.

Love Astrid, would consider it very seriously for my baby girl due soon but my partner isn't a fan unfortunately.

It's a wonderful name. Would shorten to Addie.

I've taught an Astrid and know an Astrid. Both awesome people, and a great name!
