This may be the hormones but I've just seen this on another thread and I think it's fab! I love the NN Bert or Bertie so always wanted a '__bert' name but don't like any of the others (Robert, Herbert etc). Gilby is also an adorable potential nickname. Thoughts? Hormones or good idea?

I know a Gilbert who goes by Gil. It is constantly misread and mispronounced as Gill (Jill) and people are visibly surprised when they meet him and realise that he is not a woman.

Gilbert Blythe. Sigh 😍😍😍😍

AudacityOfHope · 07/05/2019 20:26

God it's awful. A pensioners name! Nose hair and comfy slacks type name.

I can't picture looking at a beautiful newborn and thinking 'yep, definitely a Gilbert'.

DramaAlpaca · 07/05/2019 20:28

I'm blaming the hormones, Gilbert is awful.

I don't like Bert or Bertie either.

pallisers · 07/05/2019 20:28

God knows I've loved Gilbert Blythe since I was 7 years old, but I've never loved his name. If I'd married him I'd have referred to him as Dr Blythe. Gil during intimate moments grin

I could have written this :)

Yuck, sorry. I quite like Gil as a nickname but really dislike Gilbert, Bert and Bertie, sorry.

Jaz32 · 07/05/2019 20:53

I like Bertie short for Albert/Robert but not Gilbert lol that feels like it's taking old man names to a new level!

sidonie1 · 07/05/2019 20:58

I love it!

AlliKaneErikson · 07/05/2019 23:35

Ah, Gilbert Blythe...
Gilbert was my ggf’s name- not a huge fan though.

Sophronia · 07/05/2019 23:42

I like Gil.

Bumblebeesmum · 08/05/2019 10:20

Awful

FloraMcDougall · 08/05/2019 10:33

I love it (especially the Gilbert Blythe association) I suggested it as a name for DS but DH was having none of it sadly. I think he thought it was pregnancy hormones. I might get to use it as a rabbit name one day instead.
