Ivy or Artemis / Misty

DC2 due in a few weeks.

We were pretty set on Ivy for a girl but I've recently met several baby Ivys, and that has put me off a bit. Plus I kind of want her to have an option on a longer fancier version, and I don't think Ivy can be short for anything(?).

I love the name Artemis, with Misty for short. DH is not sure. Is it a bit much?

We already have a Leo, short for Leopold. We have a long surname that I have to spell every time, so I want something fairly easy to spell.

Ari or Mimi for Artemis.

I think Ivy and Leo sounds better though.

Thank you all so much! Quite a split in opinion then, and some lovely alternatives. I do like Tess and Iris.

I thought you were going to ask about cat names! Sorry OP.

Sophronia · 07/05/2019 23:49

Artemis goes very well with Leopold.

WatcherintheRye · 07/05/2019 23:59

Leopold and Artemis do go well together! What about Missy as a nn, rather than Misty? Sheldon Cooper's (Big Bang Theory) sister Melissa was nn Missy!

KingHenrysCodpiece · 08/05/2019 00:02

Artemis is beautiful! Ivy can sound old quite quickly imo

Nnnnnineteen · 08/05/2019 00:04

LOVE Artemis. Misty is cute. I believe pretty woman from Texas and Damon albarn both have a Misty.

IvanaPee · 08/05/2019 00:10

I just don’t know why you’d inflict Artemis on a little girl!

MumUnderTheMoon · 08/05/2019 00:17

I think Artemis is amazing but I would just use Artie. Going along the greek goddess line Persephone nn Perry would fit your criteria.

itsbetterthanabox · 08/05/2019 00:27

Is Artemis not a boys name?

Artemis is lovely, steeped in history.

Total waste of time putting it on the birth certificate if you’re going to give her a stripper name “as a nickname” though.

Misty. Really?

SemperIdem · 08/05/2019 00:49

Mum

Perry 😱

Percy or Sephy, surely?!

nocoolnamesleft · 08/05/2019 01:04

Artemis Fowl, boy genius, might be a slight problem...

SemperIdem · 08/05/2019 01:08

Only a very slight problem - the books were hardly Harry Potter, and pale in comparison, when considering the Greek Goddess and related mythology.

PrincessLouis · 08/05/2019 19:49

Ivy could be short for initials IV? Jessica Mulroney’s (Meghan’s BFF) is called Isabel Veronica nn Ivy I am a loser for knowing this

Likeagibbon · 08/05/2019 19:57

Could ivy be short for ivanka? Or Olivia? Or Livvy? I would have assumed Artemis was a boys name.. and i also am not keen on misty.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/05/2019 20:00

Ivy can be short for Ivana or Ivonne. You could also give her a double barreled name (one beginning with I, the next with V) and nickname her Ivy x

ZebraKid71 · 08/05/2019 22:38

Ivy is rather boring imo.

I really like artemis. I've only ever met one, she is about 15 now and I'm not sure of she uses a nn but she was always Amy when she was littke. I really don't like misty!
