Hello. I'm due our dd2 in 3 months. We have a few names but can't agree. Anyone have any options in the following, or any suggestions along these lines?

Rita
Betty
Maya (oh favourite)
Etta (my favourite)

Thanks

I really like Maya

MeanMrMustardSeed · 06/05/2019 17:49

Etta is getting increasingly popular. I do love it though!

cheesemumma · 06/05/2019 17:52

I saw someone else suggest it as a name on here. I thought I was being original. I may stop that one. Oh said he didn't want it but OK as a middle name so that's a compromise!

I don't like Betty as a standalone name. Maya is probably my favourite, followed by Etta (although if I can steal from the person above me I'd put Zelda before Etta).

MumUnderTheMoon · 06/05/2019 19:35

I love Etta it's amazing. Also a very lovely nn for Henrietta, Odette, Marietta and Claudette and similar.

Shadow1234 · 06/05/2019 19:37

Maya would be mÅ· choice

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 06/05/2019 20:17

Maya is the best there

Bellaposey · 06/05/2019 20:19

Love Etta or Betty with Elisabeth on the birth certificate.

I like Rita best.

Threeandabit · 06/05/2019 21:25

I like Rita. There was a 5 year old Rita on Planet Child the other day, and I thought it was a great name then.

Other suggestions: -

Veronica

aibutohavethisusername · 06/05/2019 22:04

I like Rita as it was my Nanna’s name.

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 06/05/2019 23:29

I like Maya and Etta best (and as pp have said Etta has lots of potential for longer names on BC for more flexibility - anything ending in -Etta or -ette could work). It's lovely as a stand-alone name too, though.

Soviet24 · 06/05/2019 23:32

My name is Kevin and my wifes Nina . We said we will have Kena if we have a girl. The alternative is Nike Smile

MercyBodle · 07/05/2019 09:43

I know a couple of girls called Maya who both pronounce it May- ah, though I had previously assumed it was pronounced the same as Maia. I know two called Maia who pronounce it My- ah.

So I find this name a bit confusing and would tend to avoid it for this reason.

Etta is okay but sounds a bit harsh to me. Betty and Rita sound very 1930s. I prefer a longer form with Betty as the nn.

Greta
Margot/Margaux
Clara
Tessa
Harriet
Dimity
Claudia
Mara
Sadie
Gilda
Frieda

Bumblebeesmum · 07/05/2019 09:55

Etta is lovely but I prefer as a nickname for Juliet / Cosette / Violet / Annette etc etc

leftovercoffeecake · 07/05/2019 11:20

Maya is my favourite from your list.

cheesemumma · 07/05/2019 20:01

Thanks for ideas guys. I don't like Elizabeth, any other names that could be shortened to Betty ? I my husbands culture it would be bethlehem, but don't think that would fly here.

Views on Odette?

TildaTurnip · 07/05/2019 20:03

LOVE Odette and Etta. Really great names and not used lots.

JenSFP · 07/05/2019 22:39

All lovely names - I'd go for Betsy rather than Betty I think. Etta makes me think of Etta James - great choice.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/05/2019 17:06

beatrice, bethany and betiana can all the shortened to betty x

oohbubbles1 · 08/05/2019 18:16

Oh- I'm expecting a little girl and Etta is one of the names we are considering, its my oh's front runner (I think my #2). Betty is lovely, though as pp Betsy is nicer imho. Maya is nice too, Rita is a nooo from me sounds very dated. Odette is very pretty too, as is Cosette x

LittleGwyneth · 09/05/2019 11:26

Henrietta could be Etta.

DieselSucker · 09/05/2019 16:35

I think Maya is lovely.
Etta reminds me of the Spanish Separatist Group (ETA)
