hi everyone,
expecting a baby girl in a few weeks, here is my shortlist:

Mila
Etta
Ivy
Bella
Willa

I think my favourite is Ivy but I can’t decide because I love all of them? Can you rate them, pick your favourite and why please? Thank you! Smile

Etta is beautiful.

oohbubbles1 · 06/05/2019 17:40

Mila would be said mee-la. oh... would pronunciation be a problem?
seems like Etta is a favourite- I really like it but don’t want people to think its a nn for anything (don’t like any longer given names)
Do you think Willa would instantly make people think “willy”? Confused
My favourite is still Ivy I think ....

I’ve always really like Mila and Willa. Etta is v try hard to me.

Willowkoko · 06/05/2019 17:48

Love them all bar Bella. Bella is a very common nickname and a popular dog name.

oohbubbles1 · 06/05/2019 17:50

Etta is growing on me... I love thats its known but unusual and unique... thank you for feedback ladies :)

Etta jumped out at me immediately! It's cool but classic and I've never met one.

florascotia2 · 06/05/2019 17:59

Etta is not widely used - though it's well within the top 500 - and it's one of the names that's most rapidly growing in popularity. So it's not unique.

Singer Etta James's given name was 'Jamesetta'

florascotia2 · 06/05/2019 18:02

Sorry, OP, didn't want to sound impolite re 'unique'. Many apologies if I was. Just thought that the information might be relevant.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 06/05/2019 18:06

Ivy

oohbubbles1 · 06/05/2019 18:07

@florascotia thats okay, didn’t sound impolite at all! thank you for the information, seems to be rising rapidly :( I’ve just never met or even heard an Etta before! Xx

does Ivy sound old fashioned? hmm just curious
thank you for the feedback everyone! x

Ooh I like all your names. I think I'd go for Etta or Willa. Such pretty names.

Arusedmoose · 06/05/2019 18:45

I know the stress is on the other syllable but when I hear Ivy, I think of an IV drip

Arusedmoose · 06/05/2019 18:46

Etta reminds me off the Spanish terrorist group ETA

BasiliskStare · 06/05/2019 18:50

Well to put the cat amongst the pigeons I would go for Ivy first - would never occur to me "poison ivy" or similar - and then Bella.

daisypond · 06/05/2019 18:53

I don’t like Ivy at all - weed, poisonous, dull, etc. Etta sounds too nicknames. I like Bella, Mila and Willa. I know young people in their late teens called all of these. Willa might be confused with the much less nice Willow, though. Mila is nice but is very Spanish to me or east European. The ones I know have these origins.

BasiliskStare · 06/05/2019 18:53

But then had I had a girl I love Stella - others won't Grin

daisypond · 06/05/2019 18:55

The Etta I know is short for Henrietta.

hewontstopshitting · 06/05/2019 18:56

I love the name Etta

RoseMartha · 06/05/2019 19:57

Ivy or
Bella

Dont like the others.

Saharasunset · 06/05/2019 20:27

Assuming the pronunciation is Mee-lah then Mila
Closely followed by Ivy

Clownfish123 · 06/05/2019 20:37

I like Etta best. Ivy reminds me of churches and old buildings.
How about Iris?

Sophronia · 06/05/2019 20:58

Willa is the best. Don’t like Mila at all, it’s very trendy at the moment.

Happyandglorious · 07/05/2019 07:18

Don't like Willa bc I would worry about Willy nns

tdam · 07/05/2019 07:46
  1. Willa
  2. Ivy
  3. Mila
  4. Bella
  5. Etta

I had the first two on my list for this baby but unfortunately my partner isn't a fan of them and I was worried about the popularity of Ivy here in Australia. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with either of those! I do like Mila too.

Lydia55y · 07/05/2019 09:03

Etta is my favourite. Ivy is pretty too. Don’t like any of the others.

Etta was on my list but DH veto’d. He said if we had a chubby DD she might get picked on at school... Etta lot etc. Ridiculous but wouldn’t let it go
