Florence or Charlotte?

Which is nicer? I think I probably prefer Florence but I'm worried it's a bit faddy.
I like the nicknames for both of them (Charlie, Lottie, Floss, Flo etc)
We have an F surname which makes Florence a bit of a tongue twister but not too bad I don't think.

I prefer Florence, and Florence F... sounds great too! both names are lovely, though Charlotte is much more popular

Bumblebeesmum · 06/05/2019 14:20

Not a fan of Florence
Love Charlotte

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2019 14:21

I like Florence better.

MaverickSnoopy · 06/05/2019 14:21

Both were on our shortlist for DD3. Lottie was my favourite of the two.

Sparklysunflower · 06/05/2019 14:23

Charlotte is more classic. Florence will date soon.

CloserIAm2Fine · 06/05/2019 14:30

Much prefer Charlotte

Longdistance · 06/05/2019 14:32

We had both Charlotte and Florence on our list, but we named her Eleanor.
I prefer Florence btw.

Ellabella989 · 06/05/2019 14:33

Charlotte is much nicer

BlueMerchant · 06/05/2019 14:42

Prefer Charlotte and all the nicknames esp Lottie.
Not really keen on Florence and hate Florrie , Flo, Floss.

MollyHuaCha · 06/05/2019 14:46

Both nice.

I prefer Florence.

miamiibiza · 06/05/2019 15:02

Florence

BoomZahramay · 06/05/2019 15:13

Charlotte is timeless and beautiful.

Florence makes me think of a spoilt brat, flouncing around.

Summerwalk · 06/05/2019 15:56

Charlotte

SallyWD · 06/05/2019 15:58

Charlotte is lovely

Shadow1234 · 06/05/2019 16:00

Charlotte (but only because I love nn Lottie or Charlie more tha Flo or Floss)

Sparklysunflower · 06/05/2019 17:24

Charlotte is just as short and easy to say as Lottie. And it's so much nicer imo.

daisypond · 06/05/2019 17:31

Florence is nicer. Charlotte is a name I irrationally dislike and see as very downmarket.

Milkn0sugar · 06/05/2019 17:57

Florence but on its own as I'm not keen on the nicknames. Like the idea of the alliteration too.

Clownfish123 · 06/05/2019 18:41

Quite evenly split. I'm surprised to hear someone say Charlotte is downmarket. I've always considered it a fairly classless classic, which is part of it's appeal.
I love Florence but I'm worried it will fast fall out of fashion and be dated to this era, which is what happened to my name!

Obviously heavily biased. Love the name Charlotte.

My psychotic mother is called Florence and a very close childhood friend was called Charlotte.

daisypond · 06/05/2019 19:24

That’s me who has the problem with Charlotte. It’s the ch sound at the beginning which lumps it in with names like Chardonnay or Cheryl. Logically there’s no link but that has always been my first association.

DailyFailAreTwats · 06/05/2019 19:34

Love Charlotte, agree that it's a classic (& my daughter's middle name). I know too many Florences that makes me feel it'll date.

Carolcool · 06/05/2019 19:53

Charlotte is lovely but very popular. Florence is a current fad.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 06/05/2019 20:06

Charlotte it is a beautiful name. Nicer than Florence (no offence) in my opinion.

TheBlackDogFollowsHim · 06/05/2019 20:07

Both are lovely but Charlotte has the edge for me.
