Does Joe White sound too similar to Snow White? Don't want son to be bullied over name if I call him this. Xx

I know a woman called Jo white and I had literally never made the connection!

Bumsnet69 · 29/04/2019 11:41

Joe White makes me think more of Joe Wright (British film director) than Snow White!

BelulahBlanca · 29/04/2019 11:45

I’ve always loved Joss/Jos. My daughter’s first name and the initial of surname sounds like Eulogy.

BigGlasses · 29/04/2019 11:55

Joe White is fine. It wouldn't occur to me to think Snow White. And even if it did it's fine, it's not like its rude or anything.

Complete tangent here, but I recently learnt that my great uncle Doff was actually Joseph. Don't think it's a common shortening! Joe is much better.

Bumblebeesmum · 29/04/2019 12:42

Damn I only came in here thinking someone was going to call their kid Snow White Grin

Joseph White is absolutely fine to me

TurquoiseAndPurple · 29/04/2019 16:03

@icelollycraving

Not to worry. There was a girl born the same time as me and her parents named her Snow White!

Pretry · 29/04/2019 16:09

I think he might end up being called snowy, I know a lad who has been nn that but it's a cool name. However we live in a large jehovas witness area and there are massive signs near me that say JW. So I don't like the initials (I don't like any intial means something else have no problem with J Witness.)

Happyandglorious · 30/04/2019 07:25

Jonah?

stellarfox · 30/04/2019 07:49

You should ask this on another forum but next time ask what people think of Joe White and not mention the Snow White thing and see how many people actually think of it!

Roo1982 · 30/04/2019 13:26

That's what I did. Only 2 people replied but they didn't see the connection at all and even said it wasn't a big thing when I told them. Xx

I don’t think it’s a big thing. You could always use the nn Joey if you like that one.

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 02/05/2019 17:23

We have Joseph and white in our sons name and never had that connection x

Eustasiavye · 04/05/2019 07:22

I know both a Joe White and a Jo White and have never made that connection.

BlueEyedPersephone · 04/05/2019 07:53

I know a joe white, never would have made connection. If it was a girl and was Joanna shortened to jo but even then it's a long stretch. Go with the name you love.

lorisparkle · 04/05/2019 08:54

There is a Joe White amongst my son's group of friends. They love nicknames and none of them have ever come up with the 'snow white' connection.

outvoid · 04/05/2019 12:22

I taught a Joseph White once, never even entered my mind.
