Boy & girl twin names

We are due boy/girl twins in September and DH and I are struggling to agree on names, particularly boy names..!
We have a DS already - he's Benjamin (Ben) - I love Ella as a girls name as it was my grandmothers name and just lovely, but my DH isn't as keen despite liking the name partly BECAUSE it's a family name for my family and my family can be well meaning but overbearing and he is worried it's giving them an inch... 🙄
Also like Abby (Abigail), Chloe, Sophie, Erin, Lyra but not sure which...
Boys - honestly struggling. A lot of our friends have used the good names already! I like Oliver (but it's too popular and we know too many) and I like Luke but my DH doesn't, like Theo but not Theodore... help!
Also liked Elliot until recently but we now know a boy with that name who would be all we think of. When naming DS it took us ages to come up with his name, so need to get a short list..! Thanks! X

"We know a boy with that name" is a really bad reason not to use it. Unless the boy in question is either a serial murderer or a very close relative, it's completely fine to use it.

Hobbes39 · 25/04/2019 18:25

@bridgetreilly - i like the name, and was on shortlist for our first DS before we moved here, but now we live in a small community and I don't know how to say this without sounding mean, but this little boy is not the best behaved so has a reputation in the community, so I don't want the association... ☹️ plus my Dh is less keen anyway.

If my DH and I have boy and girl twins (they run in both our families), we are currently planning on Edward and Erin.

NameChange30 · 25/04/2019 20:12

Ella is lovely and I like the family connection.

Faye is lovely too!

Cornishmum00 · 25/04/2019 20:16

I like Abigail and Erin. I think Theo is fine as a name doesnt need to be Theodore

BentBaastard · 25/04/2019 20:21

Ben, Theo and Eliza

Ben, Max and Arabella

Ben, Rory and Lottie

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 25/04/2019 20:23

Abby and sophie are lovely! Erin is one of my favourite names for a girl and lyra is my partners favourite name for a girl, so I think your taste is very much in line with mine!

I'm not 100% keen on chloe.

Theo is lovely and I think strong enough to be a standalone name without being short for Theodore.

My favourite boys name is Arlo, I also love Rowan and Rory.

My favourite girls names are Alice, Freya and as above Erin. I also love Aurelia and Adeline even though they're a different style!

Hobbes39 · 25/04/2019 20:24

Thanks for the suggestions so far - keep them coming!
Boys that are out due to close family or friends having them already (or too similar) or one or other of us having vetoed:
Jacob/Toby/Finn/Callum/William/Sam/Adam/George/Lewis/Fraser/Aaron/Wilfred/Tobias/Rory/Sebastian/
Dominic/Leo....
We have a lot of nephews... which doesn't help!!

Theo is lovely, you don't need to discount it because you don't want to have Theodore, just have as it is

twinza · 25/04/2019 21:10

We have boy-girl twins. The girls name was a family name from my husbands family, and I liked it but it wasn't my first choice. I knew is meant a lot to my husband though, so we agreed the girl would have the name. As sort of recognition of this my husband agreed that we would use my first choice for the boys name, as there was one I really loved, but it wasn't his first choice. Would that be an option for you, and that way you both get to choose a name that you love or is meaningful to you? Congratulations - twins are brilliant!
