Babybee88 · 19/04/2019 20:37

DD2 is due in September and these are our 3 favourite names:

Ciara (pronounced Keer-ah)
Isla
Jessica

Her big sister's name is Olivia. Please let me know what you think of our list, thanks! Smile

Jessica. I also like Jemima.

If I wanted Kee-ra, I would call her Kira.

bridgetreilly · 20/04/2019 10:58

Sorry, pressed send too soon.

Or maybe Keira. But Ciara is too much like Chiara.

YesimstillwatchingNetflix · 20/04/2019 12:32

Jessica was so prevalent in the 1980s, it's dated as a consequence.

TigerQuoll · 20/04/2019 12:45

Jessica is too 90s.

I love Ciara but I wouldn't want to burden a child with constantly having to correct people on pronunciation or spelling.

Also you should choose a name that doesn't end in "a" or saying the sisters names together won't sound good.

bamb00 · 20/04/2019 12:47

I'm unsure how you pronounce Ciara? I do like Clara though.
Jessica is by far the nicest imo

babyjakeandthehamsternauts · 20/04/2019 12:57

Ciara is Irish, Chiara is Italian. Even the meanings are opposite - Ciara means dark (or little dark haired one), Chiara means light or clear in Italian.
They are totally different names! It's not like Clare/Claire.
But I reiterate my point, to people who don't know the difference, it's a pita to have to constantly correct them Grin

Stripyhoglets · 20/04/2019 13:08

Jessica - Isla is everywhere these days. Ciara is like Keira - also lots around.

Jessica is nice and goes with Olivia.

LittleMissMummaBear · 20/04/2019 14:17

Ciara will get mispronounced all the time.
Jessica is dated.
Isla is absolutely gorgeous!!
so I vote Isla but good luck with whatever you choose x

Thanks everyone for your input, very helpful Smile

I love Ciara but my first instinct would be to say it as 'See-air-uh', like the 2000s singer.

Clara would be a lovely alternative, and less prone to wrong pronunciations or spellings.

pilates · 20/04/2019 22:59

Jessica

MrsPandigital · 20/04/2019 23:04

Many have said it already, Ciara will be pronounced See-air-rah, Isla is so common. So Jessica is the winner!

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2019 23:10

Jessica. Because Jess is a fab name.

notgreatnews · 21/04/2019 13:47

Isla will date as it's the name that is everywhere. So bored of it. Jessica is a classic and less faddy.

BlueMerchant · 21/04/2019 13:56

Ciara- I would never have pronounced it as you do. I pronounce it key-are-a. I don't like Kira.
Isla- bit 'common' where I live ( or should I say popularHmm)
Jessica is probably what I'd go for. Sounds good with Olivia.

BelulahBlanca · 21/04/2019 14:03

Jessica- beautiful, timeless and works for all ages.

Clownfish123 · 22/04/2019 08:39

Ciara is my favourite but the pronunciation issues would make it a no go 'see-air-ah' eurgh!
Jessica is lovely, classic and straightforward. I would definitely choose that over the ubiquitous Isla.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/04/2019 08:43

They’re all very pretty & work equally well on an adult as a child. I think my order of preference would be: Jessica, Isla, Ciara.

Babybee88 · 24/04/2019 20:47

Thanks for all your thoughts so far, think we're leaning towards Jessica at the moment Smile Perhaps Jessica May or Jessica Ann?

Lovely 💕

E80C · 24/04/2019 22:50

I really like Isla. I know five girls under ten named Jessica so that puts me off. Jessica May is better though.

Marie541 · 25/04/2019 01:30

Ciara.

You have similar tastes to me, I had all 3 names on my list. Jessica and Isla I loved but thought they were a bit too common.

My little one is Keira. I had a bit of a dilemma with the spelling and did put me off slightly. I didn't like the C spelling as thought it would be pronounced incorrectly. My little one always gets pronounced correctly but sometimes spelt Kiera.

It's a beautiful name though that's not overly used.

Also dont see any issue with the 2 'a' sound ds. My other daughter is Sienna and I love how they sound together.

Shadow1234 · 25/04/2019 02:55

Ciara by far the best, although I would use the Keira spelling, as less likely to cause confusion over pronounciation.

sundowners · 26/04/2019 15:21

Jessica will never date, its gorgeous. Gets my vote from your list Star

AnnieDianaLulu · 29/04/2019 19:02

I really like Ciara, but I think many will always spell and pronounce it wrong. My sister is called Jessica and I do like it, but I think I prefer Isla. It depends... if your Olivia had a nickname, I'd go with Jessica, so they can be Liv and Jess or whatever.
