Looking for a nice English classic that won’t date.

Which do you prefer?
Also which is least “chavvy”? Sorry I know that’s controversial but this is first baby so don’t really know what the new chavvy names are...as I’m out of the loop.

Lily or...Lilian/Liliana (nickname lily) vs Hannah.

No other suggestions please as these are the only names my partner and I agree on!
Thanks in advance

Hannah

RomanyQueen1 · 14/04/2019 19:03

Elizabeth.
It has to be the most versatile girls name.

Chewbecca · 14/04/2019 19:04

Of those two - Hannah without doubt.

RomanyQueen1 · 14/04/2019 19:04

whoops didn't read.
I'd say Lilian and shorten to lily

HerondaleDucks · 14/04/2019 19:04

Hannah

Jenniferyellowcat · 14/04/2019 19:04

Hannah is the most classic and the one out of the two which will not date.

GiantPretzel · 14/04/2019 19:04

The term ‘chavvy’ is rightly ‘controversial’, as it’s yet another method of demonising aspects of the working class the lower-middle classes want to separate themselves from.

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 14/04/2019 19:05

I know lots of Lily/Lillie/Lilly's, probably about 10 and 5 Hannah/Hanna's under 12 so if popularity bothers you I'd steer clear.

With that said, my eldest has a common name amongst his age group and is seen as "chavvy" but I love the name and he suits it so neither of these factors would bother me!

Hannah

Hannah is lovely.
Nothing wrong with Lily - I just hate the smell of the flowers, so wouldn’t use it myself.

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 14/04/2019 19:06

I should add his name is often described on here as chavvy not DS!

Elizabeth is about the most dated name that i can honesty think of, it is very Victorian @RomanyQueen1 !

Grumpbum123 · 14/04/2019 19:07

I think Hannah is a beautiful underused name

Hannah

Classic, not too popular and definitely not ch**vy

TheNumberfaker · 14/04/2019 19:17

Either is fine. We loved Hannah but it didn’t fit with our surname.

CuppaTeaPlz · 14/04/2019 19:18

I left school at the end of the 90’s and there were SO many Hannah’s around at that time, 5 in my year I think, but it’s not a name I’ve heard very often since, whereas Lily almost seems overused at this point

Bobbindobbin · 14/04/2019 19:18

I prefer Anna to Hannah.

Narya · 14/04/2019 19:19

Hannah

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 14/04/2019 19:19

My grandmother’s name was Lillian. I’ve always thought I’d use it either as a first, or middle name if I had a daughter. I think it’s beautiful.

Thanks everyone! Oh I was secretly team Lily! Is Lily no longer seen as a classic? I can see that it’s quite popular in the UK now.

My favourite name is Alice but my partner is refusing to budge! Which is more of a similar vein to Alice? Lily/Lillian/Liliana or Hannah?

Hannah is biblical so will always be around. I like it!
I don't like Lily but do like Lillian
