I always imagined naming my children to be easy; a joy. Of course, the realisation for many is that it's not.

I like DS's name, but frankly it was a decision made a month or so before he was born based on the fact DH and I couldn't agree on anything else.

Second time round and it looks like the same thing will happen.

It just feels like a pretty big decision to make and we've just went, "yeah that one's fine by me"

Absolutely love both mine
Proud when I say their names!

TillyTheTiger · 09/04/2019 05:34

Absolutely love my son's name, but DH doesn't. But we couldn't find a single name we agreed on. We're expecting another baby in October and I know we'll have a similar problem this time. We just have opposite taste in names.

Welcometotherock · 09/04/2019 05:37

No!
I was wavering between four names.
I ended up picking a name literally the day she was born and I don't like it. She's a teen now and hates it.

PeterRabbitsBlueCoat · 09/04/2019 05:44

When my eldest was born, although we picked a name we loved, I just didn't warm to it. I called her by a random nickname for months!

Now I love it though, and can't think of her as anything else. It may help that we have moved to another country where it is pronounced differently!!

Zoflorabore · 09/04/2019 05:44

I have a boy and a girl and absolutely love both of their names. They also go well together.

I know a mum who and a boy and her dh insisted on naming him. She's never ever liked his name and hes now 8.
In my opinion, he doesn't "suit" his name either.

ReginaPhalange89 · 09/04/2019 07:24

I have two girls and love both their names , one more than the other , I'd had my heart set on it for years.

Having a boy now and we can't find anything we love . I have a feeling it's going to be one of those ones he's nameless for a few days after birth and then we just "settle" 🙈

masktaster · 09/04/2019 07:25

I love DS's name. He wasn't named until he was about a week old, and it's not a name we'd even considered before he was born, but it's just him.

Best decision we made was to see what suited him after he was born - none of our shortlist did, at all!

Applesbananaspears · 09/04/2019 07:27

I love my eldest name and I adore my middle ones name. I like my youngests name but it was really a process of elimination and the only one we agreed we could live with.

NannyPear · 09/04/2019 07:29

Think we'll have to do that masktaster! Maybe we'll get that elusive "ooh he looks just like a ... Doesn't he?*. Only a few weeks to go so chances are something like this will happen.

I wouldn't say I love their names, I like them, but I don't really think about their names anymore. I couldn't imagine them having any other name.

NannyPear · 09/04/2019 07:35

DH mostly picked DS's name. I didn't dislike it and was sick of him saying no to everything else. He didn't even suggest it, I just listed off as many names as I could find and this one he said yes to.

I have to say this time round he's not as opinionated. I think after seeing what I went through with the first he's happier to let me choose. I, personally, am a lot more picky this time round though.

I still love the names they have but I do wish I'd used the alternate spelling for DD2.

I absolutely still love DS's name which was the most difficult choice as he has an Irish surname & it took ages to find a name we liked which went well with that... as a bonus he's ended up with that illusive unique name that seems to be mythical on MN Grin

cakesandphotos · 09/04/2019 08:30

I love my DS name, as does DH. I had a minor wobble a few weeks after he was born because it's quite an old man name but when I thought about it I couldn't think of anything that suited him more. It's the perfect name

BurrSir · 09/04/2019 08:41

There was two names I preferred but couldn’t use and I do feel a pang of envy when I see babies with those names.
However I feel in a way she chose her own name? I can’t really explain it but it wasn’t a name that I truly madly loved but I did quite like and one day when I was about 20 weeks pregnant that was just her name.

Hermagsjesty · 09/04/2019 08:43

Really love all 3 of my kids names. Just hope they like them themselves when they’re old enough to be opinionated about it!

Tiramisu1 · 09/04/2019 08:45

I love be our childrens' names! I'm glad I hadn't asked about them on Mumsnet though (as I might have been dissuaded)!

vengefuldog · 09/04/2019 08:51

I love my oldest DS name so so much, I felt kind of meh about my DD's name, but although it's really popular I've grown to love it, and it does really suit her. We were running out of time to name her and it was the first name we agreed on. And I love my youngest DS name, I just really regret the spelling. I wish we chose the more traditional version, now I worry he'll have a lifetime of correcting people

JaretsGirlfren · 09/04/2019 08:52

I love my DDs name but ExH doesn’t so I love it even more

Sophronia · 09/04/2019 10:02

DS’s name wasn’t my first choice, but I do love it.

BlueMerchant · 09/04/2019 10:08

My ds's name came from nowhere. It wasn't one we had discussed. OH held him when he was first born and said "He looks like a X" and that was that.
My dd has a mix of the three names I couldn't decide on which of I liked best. My OH didn't really like any of them...

Enb76 · 09/04/2019 10:11

I love my daughter's name. I chose it when I was 14 and had no intention of even having children. It's not wacky or out there, it's a solid but not much used name.

tomhazard · 09/04/2019 10:49

I love my daughter's, my son's was more of a compromise! But I love it now

TheVanguardSix · 09/04/2019 10:52

Love my kids’ names.
DD’s name was more DH’s choice. I liked it a lot at the time. But over the years, I’ve absolutely developed a total love for her name (probably to do with my enormous love for her).

GrumpySausage · 09/04/2019 10:53

DD's yes. DS, I never loved it (dh won me round) but I can't imagine him as anything else now.

PBobs · 10/04/2019 03:33

We haven't had our baby yet - due in June - but I love the name we have chosen and I can't wait for baby to arrive so I can start using it.
