Traditional girls names

HampshireMum1 · 08/04/2019 20:55

I'm due my second girl in a couple of months, currently liking:

Tabitha
Charlotte
Penelope
Felicity

Although I like them all none are jumping out to me like my first daughter's name. Any other ideas for traditional girls names?

I often wonder what people mean by “traditional” names. Traditional where? And how far back are we going? the names you’ve listed are certainly not traditional where I live.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, all really lovely and have given me lots to think about.

My first is called Annabelle and my name is actually Alexandria so those are out but shows that we're all thinking along the same lines 😂

@ILoveMaxiBondi - I thought the examples I gave would give an idea of what I meant by traditional, and I think they are what most people typically would describe as that.

I have to say, I've only joined Mumsnet fairly recently and see your name pop up a lot being deliberately argumentative for the sake of it. I would probably understand your comment if I had asked your opinion on the definition of traditional, but I didn't. If you haven't got anything helpful or constructive to add to a discussion then why bother?

@Calloway I love Juliet/Juliette but have already used it as a middle name, part of me wishes I had saved it now!

Calloway · 08/04/2019 21:50

If you'd saved Juliet for a second daughter the Naming Gods would have given you a son instead Grin

ILoveMaxiBondi · 08/04/2019 21:51

and I think they are what most people typically would describe as that.

Probably in a small geographical area but certainly not most people on what is a worldwide forum. Sorry!

I've only joined Mumsnet fairly recently and see your name pop up a lot being deliberately argumentative for the sake of it.

That may be your perception of my posts but I can assure you I’m never deliberately argumentative for the sake of it. I can be argumentative, but it’s always when there is a discussion to be had.

if I had asked your opinion on the definition of traditional

You asked for traditional names, but didn’t clarify specifically which tradition you meant. There are people from all over the world on MN, no-one can guess where you are from or what tradition you mean without some further information.

If you haven't got anything helpful or constructive to add to a discussion then why bother?

I asked for further information so I could answer your question!!

HampshireMum1 · 08/04/2019 22:02

@Calloway I'm sure you're right 😂 and that would have thrown up even more problems as my husband and I can't even come up with one name we agree on.

Mary, Elizabeth and Catherine are surely the most traditional names and all lovely. A little Mary would be so sweet.
