Hi quick post. Me and dh have chosen the name colton for our ds due in september but none of our family likes it.

Thoughts on it would be welcome?

Really do not want to change as it is the only name we agree on and we have ordered cot bedding etc with name on.

Tia x

I don't havelove it but I don't dislike it either. I do know that I don't personally care about what my family thinks of my children's names and I don't think you should either! A name is just a name at the end of the day! It's your personal decision not theirs.

I'm Scottish - it looks like Calton Hill in Edinburgh has been misspelled. Not a fan but you clearly love it!

feelingsinister · 01/04/2019 22:45

I don't like it but clearly you do so stick with it. It's no-one else's business so ignore your family.

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2019 23:02

I don't like it at all, but it's up to you, it's your baby. Don't listen to what anyone else says, go with what you like.

Thanks everyone just wanted a general consensus. I loved reuben and theodore but there is already 3 of each in dds nursery class. Minds made up family will need to get used to it. Iv seen some horrific names on here but everyone has there own taste.

Doesn't matter what your family think as it is your child! My parents in law didn't like my DS name the name became irrelevant after they met him for the first time.

Shelbybear · 03/04/2019 18:14

It's unusual but not horrible or weird imo. It will grow on people I'm sure. Don't let anyone put u off if u really love it, take it as a lesson learned. Don't tell anyone the name.

I told my mum a few names that were on the list and she was like oh no don't call her that, so I learned my lesson. Once we had 1 boys and 1 girls name. We told no one. Mum was well annoyed but if she hasn't give her opinion so strongly I would have shared my choice.

Put it this way, when you announce the birth and tell family and friends the name they won't go congratulations but the name is horrible. They might think it but they won't say it!

It's the first name of an actor on Coronation st i think,dh wanted us to call ds it

sandi2019 · 03/04/2019 18:25

I feel like I need to correct it to Carlton. I've heard Kalton as well...which I really like...but.....not sure about Colton........I just feel he may go through lots of:
"Colton".
"Carlton?"
"No...Colton. C.O.L.T.O.N"
"Oh.....Colton???? That's....unusual!"

sandi2019 · 03/04/2019 18:28

Ps....I also dont like it tbh.....you might think its quirky....but he's the one that has to carry it for life....

I read it as Cotton.

I’ll get my coat.
