Hi ladies,
I know I have just named my second (!!) but DH and I would love another girl already and have started thinking about some girl names (we are all sorted for boys names).

I like the name Ottilie and it is growing on me, what does everyone think? I really love it but I don't know if it's too 'weird'?
Our other name is Georgia. I've always loved this name but I'm started to think of it as the 'safe option'.
What do you think? Which is nicer? Any other girls names I could like?

Love Ottilie. What does 'pretentious' mean? Pretending to be what? What if you just like the name Hmm?

daisypond · 25/03/2019 08:34

I'm not keen on either. Ottilie sounds and looks awful - utterly, otterly. Georgia is dated and now somewhat downmarket and just reminds me of the Deep South. If I had to pick, I'd pick Georgia over Ottilie.

Tillygetsit · 26/03/2019 23:47

Ottilie Butterly 😳

Jessabean · 27/03/2019 06:53

Ottilie is quite popular at the mo it seems particularly among upper middle class/what will probably be future private school circles - e.g. seen quite a few among Telegraph birth announcements someone posted on another mn forum not long ago.

As a name for me personally is a bit meh but then I'm not sure if I'd just O sounding names as Olivia and Ophelia don't do much for me either. Nothing wrong with it though if you like it. Think it's ok with the surname though Georgia or Georgina flows better.

Tiramisu1 · 27/03/2019 06:59

I like Ottilie. Not so keen on Georgia.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 03/04/2019 18:45

Love Ottilie

Glower · 04/04/2019 00:28

To me Otillie is pretentious, middle class and very Mumsnet Grin I hear it suggested a lot on here but not so much in real life. Georgia is okay, prefer Georgiana.

SallyWD · 04/04/2019 12:06

Georgia

Ipanema01 · 04/04/2019 14:20

Love Ottilie, really don't like Georgia at all, sorry. Its dated for me.

Narya · 04/04/2019 14:43

I've only ever heard Ottilie on MN, never in RL.
Not sure how to pronounce it tbh!

Georgia is nice, I would have said classic rather than dated.

Tiramisu1 · 04/04/2019 16:29

Ottilie is pronounced how it's written: Ott-i-lie

In the uk at least.

MercyBodle · 05/04/2019 01:29

Would you consider Georgette? I think it's lovely and unexpected. Loved it since I used to read Georgette Heyer novels as a teenager.

OwlBeThere · 05/04/2019 01:40

Ottilie Mercury Just sounds weird. I like Georgie Mercury, which prefer to Georgia. I do like Georgia too though and Georgina

Litttlepinkegg · 05/04/2019 02:12

Much prefer Georgia definitely agree it’s a classic name in my view too.
Strong girl name not overused. Good nickname potential too whereas with Georgina you run the risk of ‘Gina’ which I really dislike.

PrincessPeachy1 · 05/04/2019 13:51

I’ve never actually met anyone with the name Ottilie, how do you pronounce it?

midsomermurderess · 05/04/2019 14:23

Ottilie is a bit frilly.

WhereIsMyTVRemote · 06/04/2019 22:57

Is Ottilie coming from mother of daughters in terms of its meteoric rise? I find that pretty cringe if it is (sorry). Literally never heard it before until she cropped up. I think it'll be faddy op to be honest.
Georgia is very 90s kids.

Dixierun · 06/04/2019 23:07

Georgia is fab, I associate it with very strong and determined individuals.
Ottilie on the other hand brings to mind baby otters - cute, but do you want to be compared to them when mid teens/twenties etc?

Carouselfish · 08/04/2019 21:48

Ottilie is three syllables, as is your surname. I'd be tempted to go for a one syllable.
I don't like the aesthetics off the Ott or the Jaw sounds, but that's just me.

BurrSir · 09/04/2019 08:54

I can never think how to pronounce Ottilie I can’t get my head and tongue around it for some reason! Georgia is a lovely name!

FartnissEverbeans · 09/04/2019 19:24

I like Ottilie and have come across a couple of teenage ones. It’s very, very middle class.

I like Ottoline too.

MollyHuaCha · 09/04/2019 23:23

I like Ottilie

Bellana · 10/04/2019 11:09

I like Georgia more
