Hi all,

So my partner and I have these names as our top 5, but are struggling to pick one. In my heart I don’t think we can use Maggie because of Thatcher connotations but I do like it a lot. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas of anything with a similar vibe?

I like Marnie. How about Malorie?

BlueMerchant · 23/03/2019 07:11

Love Marnie.
Marnie is classic, timeless and cool.
I don't like Maggie. Reminds me of 'The Simpsons' baby and Thatcher.

SushiForBreakfast · 23/03/2019 07:34

I love Marnie and Callie

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 23/03/2019 07:38

I love Hazel - it was a serious contender for my DD. From your list I also really like Marnie.

TenThousandSpoons · 23/03/2019 07:40

I love Hazel and Martha.
How about Minna?

Glowerglass · 23/03/2019 07:41

Love Marnie

averythinline · 23/03/2019 07:42

Martha and Marnie are my favourite -

I know a lovely Calie but it seems less of a name in its oen right more or a shortening...
Hazel is ok but not as good as the others.....

Paddy1234 · 23/03/2019 07:42

Callie is my absolute favourite

abcriskringle · 23/03/2019 07:44

I like Callie best.

C0untDucku1a · 23/03/2019 07:47

Id go Callie but spell it Calleigh, like the character in CSI Miami, and it looks less cat-name likez

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/03/2019 07:47

Love Marnie

FranklinTheCat · 23/03/2019 08:30

Martha!

Flamingosnbears · 23/03/2019 08:33

Marnie by miles and miles...

ASheepCalledPeppaPig · 23/03/2019 09:21

But Margaret is such a common name not just Thatcher! You can't use that as a reason not to use Maggie (thatcher didn't use Maggie I don't think, just the press/public to take her down a peg).

If it were me, I'd go with it and if anyone did say 'oh like Thatcher', I'd respond with 'no, like Simpson'. And move on not bothered.

Peachbubble · 23/03/2019 09:48

Callie

Starsandthemoonx · 23/03/2019 09:56

Callie is lovely not too keen on the rest!

EmmaJR1 · 23/03/2019 10:50

My niece is Callie so obviously that one! However I like Martha and Maggie too.

aliceandkids77 · 23/03/2019 11:28

ooh I love the name Hazel!! all the others are lovely as well though, as soon as I saw this I thought of Elsie for some reason? I think you may like Elsie xx

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 23/03/2019 13:02

Callie and Hazel would be my favourites. Marnie is nice too.

Not keen on Maggie or Martha.

How about Cassie? Or Margot is becoming popular and is similar to the names you put?

boomboom1234 · 23/03/2019 13:11

Callie

Lightheart · 23/03/2019 13:27

Marnie and Maggie are my favourites!

slipperywhensparticus · 23/03/2019 13:28

I love hazel!

SweetbutaPsycho · 23/03/2019 14:21

I agree with pp that Margaret is a common name so doubt the Thatcher connotation will immediately spring to mind. Although if you are totally against it how about Margot, Merida, Marnie, Marie or Mhairi instead?

mummyzombie · 23/03/2019 14:29

I like Maggie and don't immediately think of Thatcher at all.

But other similar names...

Meryl
Maisie
Martha
Marnie
Magda

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2019 14:53

I like Marnie, Callie & Hazel very much.

To me Maggie is very harsh & Martha is dreary.
