My husband is crazy about the name Genevieve and I really like it too! Love all the cute nickname potential too - Ginny, Vivi, Eve/Evie, Neve.. we don't particularly like the 'Jenny' shortening but have discussed this and agreed that while we won't call her it, it won't really bother us if others do (her future friends etc).

What do you think? I think it's a strong but feminine name and it sounds nice without surname which is tricky. My only doubt is the length of the name - does it sound a bit pretentious? Would you roll your eyes if you heard a name like this?

Also, while I'm here - if baby happens to be a boy, we are really struggling for names. I love Jasper, Casper, Felix and Barnaby buy DH doesn't.

We both quite like (but don't love) Louis pronounced (loo-ee), Hugo and Seth (the latter him more than me).

Any suggestions would be fab!

I really like idea with Genevieve! It's very unusual, but classic. My friend's little daughter is called Genevieve (Eve for short) and got so many compliments.

And Jasper would be a perfect alternative if it would be a boy. Also what about Daniel?

Ricekrispie22 · 18/03/2019 05:03

I really like Genevieve. It’s uncommon but not too unusual. I don’t consider it to be a pretentious name at all. I also like most, if not all, of your boys names.

Xander
Rory
Toby
Dominic
Alistair
Jago
Myles
Max
Freddie
Isaac
Oscar
Milo

Sorry, was thinking about Julian and wrote Daniel instead!

Also Jude?

Pemba · 18/03/2019 05:47

Genevieve is really nice.

But Jasper is a wasp, Felix is a cat, Barnaby's a bear and Caspar is a ghost. But I'd probably pick Barnaby out of those four.

Louis, Seth possibly Hugo, are so much better.

Icklepup · 18/03/2019 15:20

I like Genevieve.
Rufus, Ezra, Theodore?

KirstyT11 · 19/03/2019 00:47

We obviously have similar tastes... I loved Genevieve but my hubby really didn't at all so its off the list at the minute.

If our little one is a boy at the moment he will be jasper as it's both our favourite love your other names too. Seth i think is lovely too.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/03/2019 00:52

Genevieve is gorgeous.

Gideon?
Atticus?
Ezriel?
Gilbert?
Xander?
Xavier?

MercyBodle · 19/03/2019 01:01

I think Genevieve is lovely. Why would it be pretentious?

I like Jasper, Casper and Felix.

Alexander (Alex)

SweetbutaPsycho · 19/03/2019 23:16

Love Genevieve but can never reliably spell it (although that may be just me!)
Barnaby is my favourite of your boys names. Jasper is also nice.

TigerQuoll · 20/03/2019 05:31

I wouldn't go with Louis if you're going to insist it is pronounced Louie - that will either give him a lifetime of headaches correcting people or he'll become happy being called Louis and that'll become his name.

nocluenoidea · 20/03/2019 06:25

Genevieve is super popular here in Australia and 9/10 it is shortened to Evie. So along with Evie being also very popular there are little Evies everywhere. I wouldn't say it's pretentious at all but imo Evie is nicer than Genevieve

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/03/2019 06:37

Genevieve is great.

Love Louis, know loads, and it’s not a problem to have itvpronounced Lou-ee as that is the spelling for that pronunciation. Prince Louis may help if people really don’t know.

Herefortheduration · 20/03/2019 07:23

One of my best friends is Genevieve, she's French so has a different pronunciation than the anglicised version, she gets Gene about 50/50 with the full name. I love it.

Tofslan · 20/03/2019 16:41

Genevieve is great. I know two in their 30s - one always full name, one ‘Gen’

Love Elliott from pp’s suggestions for a boy

Or...
Caspian
Benedict
Joseph
Austin
Sebastian
