Brutually honest feedback on Quentin please.

It’s a top contender for our newborn son but I don’t know if it’s too “out there”?

Met one once. Posh bloke, had a relationship with my much, much younger friend, put me off the name!

GlitterPixie · 13/03/2019 22:30

Very Enid Blyton

jackstini · 13/03/2019 22:32

I work with a Quentin but he’s French so it’s pronounced ‘ken-tan’
Everyone calls him Q though

It’s fine, but I do think Zachary is probably less unusual and has an easy shortening (which you may love or hate!)

HighestMountains · 13/03/2019 22:35

Prefer Zachary or Quinn. Quentin is in the ridiculously posh type of names I think. Though also makes me think of Quentin Tarantino and Quentin Blake.

123Flopsy · 13/03/2019 22:36

I know a teenage Quentin who is great.

123Flopsy · 13/03/2019 22:38

And he's not at all posh. I wonder where the 'posh' association comes from? None of the Quentins I know are posh. Is Quentin Blake posh? Quentin Tarantino?

I think it's s great name!

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 22:40

Quentin Tarantino isn't posh, but he's a special kind of creepy.

violeticecream · 13/03/2019 22:43

I immediately thought of Quentin Crisp. I quite like it though

MaryBoBary · 13/03/2019 22:52

Sounds like a tosser. Sorry. You did ask for brutal honesty!

DianaBlythe · 13/03/2019 22:56

Quentin Tarantino
Quentin Blake
Uncle Quentin from the Famous Five

All sprung to mind and a reasonably varied bunch! I do think it’s a name people prejudge as posh/wet/feminine. I think once you meet someone with the name then all that fades, but I think Zachary is nicer, a lot fewer preconceptions and not so much to live up to.

123Flopsy · 13/03/2019 23:02

I wonder whether those not liking Quentin have ever met one?

We have one in our family and he's fab. Cool, sporty, kind and just lovely. So I'm surprised at some of the negative comments.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 13/03/2019 23:06

Quentin is great. Who cares if it’s a bit ‘posh’. It’s a cool name for a cool kids. Don’t be the person who calls their kids nick because you are to insecure tochoose an interesting name.

AfterSchoolWorry · 13/03/2019 23:08

It's horrible.

wowfudge · 13/03/2019 23:09

Fiddle - that made me laugh out loud! Don't call your child Quentin - it's an awful name.

pixieloux · 13/03/2019 23:16

@GregoryPeckingDuck It’s not that I’m too insecure to choose “an interesting name”... None of our children’s name aren’t overly popular where we live and our eldest’s name was like a top 700 name when we named her. I absolutely love the name and was the one who suggested it but I don’t know, something is stopping me from committing to it now he’s here... I think it is the posh association.

All of the Quentins I know are lovely normal boys with lovely families, so I don't know where that supposed 'posh' association comes from?

To me Quentin is a classic slightly old fashioned name and Q is a cool initial.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/03/2019 23:38

Zach and Quinn are fabulous names. Quentin will always be a marmite name. I have met a Quinton which I thought was a great name.

GemmeFatale · 14/03/2019 08:53

I really like it and it’s on my short list. But im aware my shortlist names are all a little marmite.

Don’t use it. I don’t want it to become too popular Grin

Bumblebeesmum · 14/03/2019 10:52

I like Quinn
Quentin is so incredibly posh that if you’re incredibly posh then fine but if not it sounds like you’re trying very hard to be - sorry you did ask!
I love Zachary

pixieloux · 14/03/2019 11:10

Thanks everyone. We’re going with Zachary. It just seems to fit a bit better especially as we’re not “posh” or trying to be lol.

Sessy19 · 14/03/2019 12:13

It’s not AWFUL. But it really is characterless in my opinion. It’s limp. It just sounds too feminine I think.

Sessy19 · 14/03/2019 12:16

Oh, yes. Zachary is much cooler. Stronger. I can’t imagine anyone thinking negatively of Zachary 😊

Ghostwriter90 · 14/03/2019 15:09

It's awful you'll regret it poor kid

RuthW · 14/03/2019 15:39

Love it

123Flopsy · 14/03/2019 16:50

I love it too (biased) Smile
