No boys names I like...

We are having a surprise but have chosen a girls name. We cannot decide on a boys name as there is hardly any I like. I want it to be unique and trendy. Names on our list but I don't LOVE are:

Jude
Bohdi
Walt
Wren
Bertie
Wolf
Gus
Barney
Dexter

If you want it to be unique it’s unlikely to be trendy and vice versa.
Jude, Bodhi, Bertie and Dexter are very on trend therefore unlikely to be unique.
I have only heard Wren as a girls name (small bird - doesn’t sound very masculine)
I like Gus short for Angus
Wolf - not keen. What if he’s not wolf like??
Barney - big purple dinosaur

What about Remy (like Wren but actually a boys name.

Not sure what your style is exactly as these names are all quite different. Names I like (but won’t use now!) are Amos, Idris and Ezra.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/03/2019 20:48

The definition of unique:
1.
being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else.

Soooo, if you really want unique then you need to make something up that no-one else has ever thought of and keep it a secret so no-one ever copies it as then it wont be unique anymore...

Or do you just mean unusual?

We had Lysander (nn Sander, Ander) and Leander (nn Ander, Leo) on our list. I still like them.

rosyedith · 12/03/2019 06:59

@Dontrocktheboat @MollyYouInDangerGirl @WaxOnFeckOff I wasn't asking for an opinion on the list I've given, they are just examples of names we have considered and then decided against.

@slappinthebass thanks for your list, I think you definitely understand the style I like 🙂

I didn't give an opinion on the names you'd given, just pointed out what unique means.

rosyedith · 12/03/2019 08:11

@WaxOnFeckOff thank you for pointing that out 😊

Quite a few names on your list were also on ours. We went with Rex.

rosyedith · 12/03/2019 12:04

@LlamaShark I love Rex and it would really suit our surname but DP not too keen 😕

Baxter is an unusual name I love, and seems to be in keeping with the current trend for the Jaxon/Dexter type names.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 12/03/2019 13:49

OP I'm in a similar position as you. I'm (very early) pg with our 2nd and there's nothing I love as much as the name we chose for DS (Quinn).

Jude I like but DH doesn't - he didn't like Quinn until DS arrived though so don't discount names for that reason.

I like Lenny, Felix and Kit at the moment. Wren is on our girl's list.

rosyedith · 12/03/2019 18:10

@rainyfriday I like Baxter a lot. Would you shorten to bax though?

@DennisSkinnersMolotov Quinn is another I would consider but DH doesn't like! They are so frustrating aren't they 😂

OP posts:
123Flopsy · 12/03/2019 18:23

Quinn is a great name!

rainyfriday · 12/03/2019 21:19

@rosyedith I probably would yeah. Not officially, but I know in usage I would end up calling him Bax. I'm struggling with names for ds3 but whenever I've mentioned Baxter I've just had the 'it's a dog's name' comments. I do really like it though.
