Girls name help!

I’ve got 2 weeks left to name baby girl. Ive trawled through thousands of names and can’t find the one.

Some I’ve liked but ruled out are;

Harriet- too similar to sibling name
Isla- too popular
Iris- DH doesn’t like
Phoebe- like but can’t make myself love it
Erin- like but know another Erin that isn’t a nice person and it just makes me think of them!

I want something classic and that is a normal known name, but not too popular.

Please help! I’m getting desperate.

Just thought of Veronica.

motortroll · 10/03/2019 08:28

My girls all have classic but unusual names. They're on the list below along with some others I liked

Frances
Constance (Connie)
Cora
Esther
Charlotte
Avery
April
Josephine
Robyn
Rowan
Juliet (but you don't like this one Sad)

Maybe just say the names you like a bit alongside your sons name and see which sounds best??

Elliot and April sound lovely!

BlueMerchant · 10/03/2019 08:36

Tamara
Lara
Louisa
Marnie
Martha
Eloise
Heidi
Ciara

ContadoraExplorer · 10/03/2019 08:38

If you like Isla, what about Iona?

Zogsyoungersister · 10/03/2019 10:38

Lila?

lanclass1 · 10/03/2019 10:52

Suzannah is lovely

Hameldown · 10/03/2019 10:56

So;
Eleanor
Isabella/Isobel
Catherine
Marguerite
Mary
Louisa
Leonora
Charlotte
Adelaide
Victoria
Caroline

That's my 'Queens list'! Some of these work well as second names too to add a bit of gravitas. My mother insisted that boys' names had to be either kings, saints or Romans to qualify as 'proper' and although it may sound absurd there's probably some wisdom in it.

I know you don't like Athene but there are some lovely and user friendly Latin/Greek names
Lydia
Livia
Sybil
Dorcas
Theodora / Dora
Olympia

Think of the number of syllables in your surname and balance it out. And tap it out as a rhythm and see if it flows. Six syllables is probably the most you want for first and surname combined unless there's a break in emphasis (I mean a 'dah-da' to break up lots of 'da da da's) Does that make sense?
Good luck x

I’ve just discovered Rosetta- thoughts?

I’m not sure... but something is making me add it to the list!

I’ve now got;
Phoebe
Iris
Isla
Annabelle
Lotta
Rosanna
Henrietta
Tessa
Orla
Clara
Ada
Loretta
Colette
Rosetta

So at least have more than I started with! Still not sure about any one of them though. I never realised it would be this difficult to make a girl.

People will think of Rosetta Stone - the language software.

Iris, Ada, Clara are my favourites. Pretty and classic.

Twisique · 10/03/2019 19:54

What about Carlotta?

WhenZogateSuperworm · 10/03/2019 19:59

@Twisique yes I’ve considered Carlotta, I’m not sure though.

I am aware I’m incredibly picky! I wasn’t this indecisive with DS’s name so no idea why I’m struggling so much this time round.

If my DS had been a girl he would have been 'Addison'.

I know it's not a normal or classic name, DH and I both felt the same as you before DS was born but couldn't agree on any other girl's name but had a boy's list as long as your arm!! Good luck!! 😊

ParisWilton · 11/03/2019 18:09

I like Loretta and Colette

Erica
Vanessa

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 11/03/2019 20:59

I think Robyn is really pretty. A well known name that's not too popular Smile

Ottilie

WhenZogateSuperworm · 11/03/2019 22:10

I like Robin for a boy but not keen for a girl.

I still have no idea- hoping one of the names will just suit her and I will know that’s the right one! I really would like her to be named within a few hours of being born though. I don’t like babies leaving hospital without names.
