Just Tess, not short for anything... WDYT?

It's great. Tessa is on my list!

bomanaise · 06/03/2019 13:50

I fear she'd be called 'testicle'

magpie24 · 06/03/2019 14:02

Like it and also like Tessa

MyNameIsABCDE · 06/03/2019 18:28

My fave of the three is Tess, but also really like Nell. Nell is a very cool name. Fern seams a bit dull in comparison in my opinion

MyNameIsABCDE · 06/03/2019 18:32

Also Fern would annoy me due to the spelling variations (Ferne, Fearne)

daisypond · 06/03/2019 19:01

Fern would be my pick - but that's because I'm not a fan of shortened names in general. I do like Tess and Nell but I'd still go for Theresa or Eleanor first, for example.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2019 20:38

Love Tess, just as it is.

Fern is also lovely, but only if it's spelled that way.

Nell is nice but I prefer it as a diminutive & I would hate it being changed to Nellie.

Beluga2019 · 06/03/2019 21:11

DramaAlpaca Me too. I actually think Nellie/Nelly is enough to put me off Nell, sadly.

The other spellings of Fern hadn’t occurred to me, actually, so that’s good to bear in mind. Thanks all!

Classic name and underused. Love it

Bumblebeesmum · 06/03/2019 21:51

Sounds like a dogs name

Marlena1 · 06/03/2019 21:56

I like it. Short and sweet and soft. No messing with Tess! Nell is nice too.

Corcra · 06/03/2019 22:01

I know two Tess’s, both 8.
I really love the name Nell 💗

Antonin · 07/03/2019 16:47

I think Nell would inevitably become Nellie . Nelly Bly caught a fly etc
Fern is fine. I used it for a cat — that’s how I used the names Icouldnt use on real babies and not because it is a cats name. By the same token, my DGD was given a special pet’s name as a middle name — it being a popular girl’s name.
Tess is fine, though I’d prefer Tessa.
What about Belle as a short name similar to Nell?
Aida would cause confusion re pronunciation as it’s also the name of the opera Aida pronounced I - eeda.

MikeUniformMike · 07/03/2019 17:35

Love it. Just Tess.

RoseMartha · 07/03/2019 17:46

It is ok.

VoyageInTheDark · 07/03/2019 18:14

I love Tess. Nell is also good but I dislike Nelly

MumUnderTheMoon · 08/03/2019 11:37

I love the name Tess. It's one of my faves I would absolutely use it if I wanted more kids. It's simple to spell, not weird but rarely used and I can imagine that Tess would be fun and a bit firey but in only the best way.

Cookit · 08/03/2019 12:04

On I LOVE Tess. Don’t at all like Fern though.

mrsdavys · 08/03/2019 18:29

I really don’t like Fern.
Nell is ok but I’d only use it as a nickname for Helena or Eleanor
I like Tess
