Names to go with middle name Mary

Mangotango123 · 04/03/2019 14:59

We are due in Sept, it will be our first baby.
We don't want to find out the sex beforehand, and so have been considering names for both.
For a girl we are going to use the middle name 'Mary' as it belonged to family member and it is for her memory. Here are some of our first name suggestions - what is everyone's opinion on them as a whole and with Mary the middle name? Thank you x

  • Tabitha
  • Clementine
  • Ida
  • Annabel
  • Luna
  • Willow
  • Emelia
  • Dulcie

Clementine Mary and Tabitha Mary. Have the best flow to them.
I love Luna and Willow, but I'm not feeling them with Mary.
Like Emilia is lovely but too M heavy.
Ida Mary works better the other way around Mary Ida or Ida Marie. IMO.
I'd scrap Dulcie. Everyone knows the unwritten rule of not having a first and middle name ending both ending in a Y sound, again. Dulcie Marie would work.

Love Tabitha. Clementine and Annabel are nice too.

Annabel Mary
Tabitha Mary
Clementine Mary
I don't think Mary suits Willow or Luna type of name as pp states.
Ida Emilia and Dulcie are a no. They don't sound well with Mary.
My fav would be Annabel

Peachbubble · 04/03/2019 16:45

Tabitha, Clementine and Annabel are my favourites.

Sophronia · 04/03/2019 17:24

I like Annabel Mary

clippityclop · 04/03/2019 17:27

Anna. Georgia. Catherine.

EyeOfTheTigger · 04/03/2019 17:37

I have a Caitlin Mary Smile

From your list I like Annabel first, then Clementine

Phantology · 04/03/2019 17:49

Tabitha is my fave by a long way.

BarlowAndStraker · 04/03/2019 17:50

Tabitha is my fav too.

Phantology · 04/03/2019 17:52

But I really don't think it matters if the name you like best goes particularly well with Mary or not. The fact that it's your favourite name paired with the name of someone close to you is more important than whether the sounds work well together. Smile

MikeUniformMike · 04/03/2019 17:54

Annabel

SweetButaPsycho · 04/03/2019 18:46

Tabitha Mary is my favourite
Emilia Mary is also nice.

Mmmhmmokdear · 04/03/2019 18:48

Ida Mary is ace.

NormaTheHippo · 04/03/2019 21:50

Tabitha Mary. Love it.

MumUnderTheMoon · 05/03/2019 10:11

Other than Dulcie all the names sound grand with Mary although I do think the French version, Marie, sounds great too, you could even hyphenate. I really love Willow-Marie.

MercyBodle · 06/03/2019 11:19

Tabitha and Clementine are my favourites and both are great with Mary. I also really like Annabel.

GoodMornin · 06/03/2019 11:24
  • Tabitha - nice and goes with Mary
  • Clementine- very pretty
  • Ida - don't like it (sorry!)
  • Annabel- pretty, nice to shorten if wanted
  • Luna - quite like it but know a couple of people who've called their babies this, if that bothers you?
  • Willow - nice but a bit naff (sorry)
  • Emelia - maybe will get called Amelia by accident? I have a friend called Amelie and she constantly gets called Amelia
  • Dulcie- never even heard of this? How is it pronounced?
PhoenixBuchanan · 08/03/2019 05:51

I'd just go with whatever first name you like best. I think we can get way too hung up on having a name with perfect rhythm, cadence, flow etc. All your choices are absolutely fine with Mary except Dulcie which is a bit rhymey. FWIW I have a Jemima Mary- it has WAY too many Ms but I wasn't as happy with any other middle name, so I just went with it and it's fine. No one ever calls you by your full name anyway.

TonightJosephine · 08/03/2019 16:15

Clementine, Ida or Annabel for me.

billysboy · 08/03/2019 16:17

Hairy ?

mrsdavys · 09/03/2019 09:49

Tabitha Mary flows nicely

JenSFP · 09/03/2019 10:15

Love Clementine.

My cousin has that name and is Clem for short (was Clemmie when a little girl).

aliceandkids77 · 09/03/2019 12:02

your name list is gorgeous! I think my favourites are Tabitha, Annabel and Willow. All beautiful
