Twins Names

Currently struggling with our twins names, to make it more complicated we don’t know what we’re having (their not identical). Currently we have:-

Girls
Alice - favourite atm
Florence
Zara

Boys
Albert
Gabriel - I love this but I’m afraid of school teasing
Alexander

To complicate things even more if we had boy/girl twins I wouldn’t want them to have a name with the same initial as I don’t want them to be “

I’m 30 weeks gone now and there’s a chance that I’ll deliver earlier than 37 weeks so we really need to get a wriggle on.

Any suggestions? X

All of your girls names are lovely, Alice is my favourite!

Out of your biys names I personally only like Alexander. I don't like the name Albert but I do like the nickname albie.

My picks would be:
Alice and Florence
Alice and Alexander (sorry I know you said you didn't want two the same letter!)
Alexander and Albert nn Albie (same letter again sorry!)

Zara and Gabriel are my least favourite on your list but it sounds like Gabriel is your favourite so you should go for that 😁

Whoops75 · 27/02/2019 23:51

I don’t think your boys names go well with the girls names or each other, sorry.
Really like

Alice and Zara
Zara and Alexander
Alexander and ?

I think you need another boys name in the mix. Going by what you like I think
Nicholas, Harry, or Samuel would be nice.,

Very exciting times ahead, good luck x

QueenGoblin · 28/02/2019 00:10

I don't like Florence and not a huge fan of Albert.

Alice and Gabriel
Zara and Gabriel
Gabriel and Alexander

Alexander will most likely be shortened to Alex, so Alice and Alex isn't a great combo. There is also a chance it could get shortened to Xander and you would have a similar problem with Zara (and Xander). Or Alice and Xander which sounds a bit like Alexander. Zara and Alex works though. Sasha is also a nickname and that works with Alice and Zara.

Also, I know a mum of twin girls who had the twin test done when they were a year old and turns out even though they were in separate sacs and had their own placenta, they are identical.

TheresACatInMyLaundryBasket · 28/02/2019 00:22

Gabriel is fine, could you name a girl (if you have one!) Gabrielle?

TheresACatInMyLaundryBasket · 28/02/2019 00:24

Sorry pressed send too soon! I as going to say that you could then use another name from your shortlist, at least for a girl/girl or boy/girl combo.

BabyBlackCat · 28/02/2019 00:32

Personally -

B/G = Gabriel & Alice
G/G = Alice & Zara
B/B = Gabriel & Alexander

3girlsmama · 28/02/2019 00:43

I like your names, any number of combinations work...

Gabriel & Florence
Gabriel & Alexander (Alexandra option for a girl?)
Florence & Zara

I have fraternal twin girls, twin parenting is special, enjoy x

itsagooddaytosavehives · 28/02/2019 01:14

I love Alice and Zara
And I love Gabriel and Alexander

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/02/2019 06:35

my babies have their own sacs and placenta’s which you can tell on the scan. Identical twins share a placenta

This can be true of some types of identical twins too. It all depends on when the embryo split.

I’m not trying to be picky, just wanted you to be aware so iou don’t assume that they definitely aren’t identical, they still might be!

IdaBWells · 28/02/2019 06:53

Just another one to say that our Gabriel is 12 and has never had any issues over his name. Quite the opposite, he has had compliments on his name his whole life. In fact I have had people tell me it was their first choice name and they regret not using it for the concerns you mention.

He is known as Gabe but he just told me a couple of weeks ago to my surprise that he prefers Gabriel so we are making more effort to not use his nickname. As a baby he was Gabe the Babe and Gabey. He was Gabey till about 6.

He is the tallest in his year and is going to be tall like his dad and uncles so I think of it as a very masculine name. As well as the biblical Gabriel, my favourite Gabriel is Gabriel Oak from "Far From the Madding Crowd".

MercyBodle · 28/02/2019 07:46

My favourite pairs:

Alice and Zara
Florence and Alexander
Alexander and ? (Hugo?) (sorry I'm not so keen on Gabriel, and not Albert if not 2 x 'Al' names)

Kokeshi123 · 28/02/2019 11:31

No--around one-quarter of monozygotic (identical) twins have their own placentas. If your consultant told you that they must be fraternal based on this, tell him/her to go back to school! Your twins may well be identical! The only way to tell for sure is to do a genetic test for zygosity. This is hard to do during pregnancy, but possible if you have the NIPT test or similar I believe.

silverliningsa · 28/02/2019 12:12

I have fallen in love with the name Gabriel reading this thread! It is a beautiful name. My choices would be Alice and Gabriel :)

Also as PP have said they could still be identical even if separate placenta's!

carben · 28/02/2019 20:51

The only foolproof way to know if they're fraternal without tests is if they're B/G. Although the number of times I've been asked if my B/G twins are identical makes me wonderHmm

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 01/03/2019 09:22

Alice and Florence
Gabriel and Alexander
Florence and Alexander

Lovely names OP.

gemma1403 · 01/03/2019 11:33

I have b/g twins. Alice & Bradley. We knew what we were having before they were born though. I think if we were to have 2 girls, they would have been Alice & Emily. I didn't have 2 boys names picked so not sure what we would have done. Good luck!

didihearthatright123456 · 01/03/2019 19:09

Awwww @IdaBWells Gabe the Babe is soooo cute!! Your analysis of the name though makes me a little nervous 😂 both myself and DH are a couple of shorties, it’s highly unlikely that our son would be the tallest in the class, rather the shortest 🤣 I do still love the name though and it’s definitely our first choice now for a boy xx

Thanks everyone for your input it’s reassuring that our choices are mainly liked xxxx

Don't over analyze! It's a great name.

Sessy19 · 02/03/2019 09:55

Everyone’s a neonatal consultant on mumsnet! 😂

Regardless of identical/non-identical, you have some good names. I consider Zara a much ‘stronger’ name than Alice, so I’d vote for Zara.

Gabriel is a pretty cool name, probably in the same bracket as Elliot or Oscar. Not keen on Albert. And Alexander is a common middle name imo

didihearthatright123456 · 02/03/2019 10:30

@Sessy19 😂😂 very true. We had IVF with 2 embryo’s put back so I’m fairly confident (although I could yet be surprised) that our twins aren’t identical.

I think you are actually right about Alexander being a middle name, my friend was telling me that it’s a standard middle name in their family which a lot of relatives have used.

MikeUniformMike · 02/03/2019 14:43

Alice and Zara.

Not keen on Albert or Gabriel.
Alexander and Alice will be Alex and Alice.

MumUnderTheMoon · 02/03/2019 21:39

I wouldn't use Alice and Florence together as I think they sound quite similar at the end and I think your right about the same first initial but they are all lovely names. I don't see why Gabriel is any more likely to get you tested than Albert.
