Does this sound ridiculous?!

The only name my husband and I both love and agree on for a girl is Ivy. The problem is our surname begins with the letter F. She’d literally be Ivy F (which sounds exactly like IVF). Is that ridiculous?

The other name we liked was Evie but it’s waaaaay too popular as we know a few already. Any name suggestions welcome?!

Ivy is a lovely name and unless your surname is actually Eff then don't worry about it.

AnnaSparks · 27/02/2019 08:52

My worry is that it’s quite a popular name now, so if there are two Ivys in her class she’ll be called Ivy F 🙈

We loved Ivy too, and our surname begins with F. As we actually had IVF I felt it was a bit too twee but I don’t think anyone would have picked up on it if we hadn’t!

pinkyredrose · 27/02/2019 08:56

I think you're worrying about nothing! So what if it's popular? Use it if you want, if there's other Ivys in her class she could be known as Ivy Middle name?

ParisWilton · 27/02/2019 09:54

I probably wouldn't use it. Ivy is fairly popular where I live. That said, friends of mine whose children share the same name as other children in their class tend to find that their child is know by their full name so 'Ivy Fisher' rather than Ivy F.

This would make it a no for me.

NuffSaidSam · 27/02/2019 11:07

Ivy F is quite funny!

But children won't know what IVF is, so it won't matter at school. Although the teacher/other parents might have a giggle.

Could you barrell your surname? So the F isn't the first initial.

NuffSaidSam · 27/02/2019 11:08

*double barrell your surname!

BlueMerchant · 27/02/2019 11:15

I wouldn't use Ivy with F surname.
Suggestions if you like 'ee'
Heidi
Marnie
Elsie
Betsy
Hattie
Holly
Lottie

MercyBodle · 27/02/2019 11:25

No, sorry, but that would stop me from using it.

daisypond · 27/02/2019 12:15

I don't see a problem at all with Ivy F. It's completely fine.

ReginaPhalange89 · 27/02/2019 12:19

I really wouldn't be put off by that if we both loved Ivy. It's only a potential problem and it's not even really a problem.... It's not like it sounds like something rude !

AnnaSparks · 27/02/2019 13:00

This is the problem I’m having - my friends either seem to think it’s awful or no problem at all! I’m still torn

If you have any doubt, and your last post suggests you do, then don't do it.
