Girls names - are they too similar?

Hi everyone.

I'm starting to think of girls names for our second child (don't know what we're having yet but already have a boys name).

I really love Evelina but we already have a Helena who we call Nell. We pronounce Helena Helen-a so they don't sound the same but if it's mispronounced as Hel-ee-na I'm conscious they sound similar.

What do you think?

Do you always call her Nell? If so I think it would be ok. For example my friend is Katie. We are in our 30s and I’ve only just learnt (via her passport we went on holiday) her actual name is Kathryn. I’ve known her 15 years. How often is she Helena? X

Hi all similar question here, we already have a little girl called Ava and we are expecting another little girl in July ❤️ really struggling for names that we both like and will stick to! 😁
I am really liking the name Ida atm which I'm conscious sounds a bit too much like Ava (maybe that's why I like it.... 🤔)
So I would love some impartial thoughts from people who aren't family.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
X

I love Evelina! I think it goes great with Helena.

I wouldn't worry about it rhyming, as you can always correct the pronunciation of Helena.

Bellaposey · 24/02/2019 10:42

Thank you. She gets Nell more than Helena.

I think Ida and Ava are too similar I'm sorry.

I think Nell and Evelena is absolutely fine - would you nickname Evelena ?

Ava and Ida are also fine to me and both beautiful names but Idalia might appeal?

MercyBodle · 26/02/2019 07:09

I'm not a huge fan of Evelina as it sounds too frilly for my taste, but that said, I think it works okay as sister for Helena/Nell (which I love BTW).

I find Ava and Ida too similar though. Edith, Idony, Iona, Ione?

MikeUniformMike · 26/02/2019 18:48

I don't think that Ava and Ida are too similar.
Would you be calling Evelina Evie or something?

Bellaposey · 26/02/2019 19:47

Thank you for the responses.

Evelina would be Eva as a nickname I expect.

I don’t think they’re too similar at all and I love the name Evelina. I’m considering it myself!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/02/2019 08:39

Nell and Eva are fine.

Bellaposey · 27/02/2019 17:21

Thank you!

I really don't like Eva sorry but I like Evie.

TatianaLarina · 28/02/2019 12:18

I think Eve/Evie/Eva is one of the most overused names of the moment.

I also think Evelina and and Helena are too similar. More so tha. Ava and Ida.

Plenty of nice names out there.

BlueMerchant · 28/02/2019 12:26

Not keen on Evelina or sure about it with Helena.
I do like Nell and Eva though and absolutely love Nell and Lena but realise Lena could be used for Helena too so😬

HappyGoLuckyGo · 01/03/2019 01:36

How are you pronouncing Evelina? Eh-veh-lee-na? Or Eve-lee-na? I don’t think it’s very similar to Helena though. Should be fine. 👍🏻
