Name like Romy?

Hi all,

Help needed! We absolutely love the name Romy and were all set to use it for our baby girl who is due in March. Unfortunately, my SIL has just used this name for her daughter.

Anyhoo, I think what I love about the name is the “ee” sound, so I’m not looking for alternatives like Romily, Ramona etc, but more another quite short name that sounds quite soft on the ear. We like happy sounding names Smile

I like Josie (but we have another in the family) as well as Stevie, Darcy and Sophie all of which DH has vetoed! He does love Sophie (is too chicken to use Stevie although I agree it’s a bit out there) and generally “ee” sounding names but we know 5 baby Sophie’s so that is out.

Please can you wise people help?

Just read your update! That's naughty of your SIL to steal your name but I agree with others that there are many more fabulous ones to choose now! Keep it quiet until baby is here OP. Congratulations Thanks

Remi. I know it can be male too but I have come across some girls and always thought it was pretty.

Bustermoon · 21/02/2019 10:42

Thank you all. There are some fabulous names here that I hadn’t heard or thought of. Love Cassie and Delphi and Emmie.

Toast, I love your whole list!

Yes naughty and I’m disappointed but this is such a great list to look through that I don’t feel so sad about it now. So many nice names. We’ll find the right one Smile thank you

But please can you come back to let us know? Grin I always feel so invested on baby name posts and we very rarely get to know what the final chosen name was!
Is there a baby out there named thanks to MY post on MN?! I'll never know! Grin

No reason why you can’t call yours Romy if you wish too . However if you’d feel more comfortable with another then others have put some lovely names on here .

Tamsyn143 · 21/02/2019 12:05

This is so funny. I was sold on the name Betsy for my first child - when she arrived I called her Romilly!!! We love the name, although she's more often called Rom Bomb x

Bustermoon · 21/02/2019 12:28

I did think about still using the name, as it feels a bit harsh, especially after the face that was pulled when I initially mentioned the name Hmm but decided it’d be a bit weird to have 2 Romys. This thread has made me realise that I can find another name though. There really are some lovely names here.

Toast, I promise I’ll update! Grin

Tamsyn Grin It is funny how people tend to like groups of names isn’t it, and you see someone who mentions a few totally different names that are in your list. Rom Bomb is so cute and Romily is a beautiful name (it doesn’t go with our surname at all - think Romily Homily 😂)

She said that she didn’t like it (at all) when we mentioned it but it grew on her and that no one “owns” a name so she didn’t get why we were upset. (She was very sheepish about the whole thing and we were told via my MIL when the baby was born so clearly despite being defensive about it she knew it was not on).

I like that way of thinking. We’ll find a name that we think is even more beautiful. It’s out there. I know it! I have a lovely big list here to mull over.

Thank you everyone x

Thank you so much Josepheen. That was a really lovely message Flowers I’m hopeful that we’ll find something very special.

Yes, I’m listening now!

I will definitely keep you all updated. Thanks again all.

Zaylie
Marley

Or how about Mika? Or Cleo?
They don't end in the ee sound but are short and lovely like Romy.

Bustermoon · 21/02/2019 17:31

I really like Zaylie, not heard that name before. Cleo is also lovely!

If you wanted a longer name for Betsy (not that you need it) my SIL is called Elisabetta and uses Betty / Betsy

modgepodge · 21/02/2019 18:17

Loving this thread! I’m 34 weeks and want a name ending in ‘ee’ sound too. My top choices are: Elodie, Amelie, Maisie, daisy, poppy, Aurora (‘rory’), Emilia (‘emmie’), Esme, Gracie, ottilie.

My sister had a baby a few weeks back. Despite the fact she had a boy, she managed to choose a name (unisex) which we were keen on using. However, we’d never discussed it and she’d loved the name her whole life. Just bad luck in our case. I’ve avoided discussing name choices with many people simply because I’d hate to be in your SIL’s position (hear a name, think oooh I love it, then feel you can’t use it as a close friend/family member wants to - or not in her case!!) or yours (tell someone a name and they use it and you feel you can’t).
