What’s your thoughts on this name? Pronounced On-na...

Is it classic as Anna?

I think anorexia.

The character in Frozen is spelled Anna pronounces Arna. Ana is just the Spanish spelling of Anna to me and pronounced the same way. Arna is a name, as is Honor.

I’m an Ana (South American) and:

  1. Everyone pronounces it the same way as Anna
  2. No one has ever added an L to the end of it (and yes, the word is the same in my language)
  3. I have spent the best part of the last twelve years saying ‘it’s A-n-a’ or ‘Ana with a single n’. At least it’s short to spell but, as much as I love my name (and I do!), to be honest I wouldn’t use this spelling if living in an English speaking country.

Yep. Spanish and Portuguese spelling and a very very common name there (and in South America).

glitterbiscuits · 19/02/2019 20:02

Anna - yes. Lovely, classic
Ana- yuck. No.

kaytee87 · 19/02/2019 20:18

I'm confused as to where the O and R sounds are coming from?

I'd just pronounce it Ana and assume it was short for Anastasia.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/02/2019 20:20

I would always think of her as Ana-anorexic

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2019 21:19

It's the Spanish version of Anna, & should be pronounced more or less the same.

Ana will get mispronounced constantly as this thread shows.

Sophronia · 19/02/2019 22:51

Anna is much nicer

bridgetreilly · 19/02/2019 23:28

Christian Grey will see you now.

Skirmisher · 19/02/2019 23:49

It looks too clipped.

Threenanger · 20/02/2019 02:30

I’ll take it that Ana is a no! Thanks everyone
