Can I have thoughts please ? I have a feeling she won't be named until she needs to be registered!

My picks
Beth/Betsy
Imogen
Emilia
Rose (potential middle name)
Della (my Nan's name and current favourite!)

DH's picks
Matilda
Bess(ie) I don't think this will go with last name which starts with a 'sh'
Ada
Ava
Bonnie
Nell
Thea

Other options
Anna
Beatrice/Bea

I like them all apart from Bonnie and Imogen. I think Emilia, Bea or Ada are my favourites, with Rose as the middle name.

I can see why people like Della, but it used to be the only nightclub where I lived as a teenager so just reminds me of that!

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2019 18:07

My picks
Beth/Betsy - yes, both are nice
Imogen - ok. Don't like Immy.
Emilia - lovely but so many Emilys, Amelias and Emilias
Rose (potential middle name) - big too popular as a middle name
Della (my Nan's name and current favourite!) - use it as a middle name.

DH's picks
Matilda - no. Far too many of them already
Bess(ie) I don't think this will go with last name which starts with a 'sh' - Betsy is much nicer
Ada - Old programming language. How about Fortran or Algol instead
Ava - yuk
Bonnie - cute but no
Nell - yes but I don't like Nellie
Thea - yuk

Other options
Anna - like it a lot
Beatrice/Bea - nice

Betsy Della Gronk.

@happydinosaur as if there was a nightclub called Della haha! I like the fact that Emilia and Beatrice are Shakespearean.

@mikeuniformmike I am very hesitant about the popular names! I have also thought about Della as a middle name but then feel like I’ve missed the opportunity to use it as a first name! I didn’t know about Ada my Dad laughs hysterically when I mention it because to him it’s an old lady name. I’ve liked Betsy for a while. Betsy Della Gronk lol!

I think the good news is that you have a lot of common ground. Very similar styles, even if the actual names don't overlap. I'm sure you can eventually come up with something. I like almost all the names.

Beth/Betsy/Bess/Bessie are SO similar- could you not call her Elizabeth and see what NN works best? They're all nice!

HappyDinosaur · 18/02/2019 18:50

Ah memories! It was in the early to mid 2000's in Somerset and the floor was always sticky, it is a nice name anyway though!

emeraldmoon · 18/02/2019 18:52

I think Rose Della or Della Rose sound lovely, I also like Emilia but it is a bit popular, not keen on any of the others personally

nervousFTM · 18/02/2019 18:54

Oh I just love Della! 💞

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2019 18:57

Use Della as a first name then. It's nice, it's fairly unusual and it means a lot to you. I only know one, she's grown up and pretty.

Threenanger · 18/02/2019 19:45

I like Emilia, rose (as a first name) and Anna

Gronk27 · 18/02/2019 20:13

@phoenixbuchanan Elizabeth is a deal breaker for DH sadly! I love it. And you’re right we do have similar tastes.

@emeraldmoon I like Della Rose too much as I know Rose as a middle name is very ‘in’ I think the Rose softens the Della.

@mikeuniformmike I think you’re right it’s what my gut says, not sure DH is as on board now.

@threenager Rose as a first name doesn’t really work with last name sadly. Emilia and Anna are very classic!

Thanks for the input everyone.

I really like Della Rose or Imogen Rose. (Both sound lovely).

Sophronia · 18/02/2019 23:19

Anna Rose

ninalovesdragons · 19/02/2019 00:25

Emilia, Imogen and Thea are lovely.

I quite like Della but don't know if I'd be bold enough to use it.

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2019 12:38

Use it. It's not 'out there'.
The only downsides is that some might try to call her Stella, Delia or Adela, and they would be the sort who would struggle with Kate or Jane,
Della is lovely.

Gronk27 · 19/02/2019 16:25

Thank you. Funnily enough I’d never known anyone struggle with my Nan’s name but a pharmacist wrote down Delia the other day ha!

People can’t get my name right and it’s as common and biblical as they get.

Beatrice is also lovely though I slightly prefer Beatrix

All lovely.

BlueMerchant · 19/02/2019 19:07

Betsy and Anna are the only ones on list I like. Betsy I really like.

Vanannabananna · 19/02/2019 19:10

I actually like all of them!

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 19/02/2019 19:31

Emilia and Thea although prefer Thalia

Gronk27 · 20/02/2019 11:29

Thanks all! I think Ada is really growing in popularity.

I also like Beatrix but DH diesn’t.

Don’t think Thalia suits us although very pretty.
