Is clementine a good name? i love it but am worried others will consider it weird im naming a kid after fruit. I also like the idea of minerva (minnie for short). What are your opinions on these names? any suggestions accepted too

Love it. Song never mentioned it’s hardly a current track is it?! Think I sang it once at guides in 1984. If you reject names on grounds like that you will never find one!

Peachbubble · 12/02/2019 06:33

Lovely name. I hadn't connected it to the song until others mentioned it.

We managed it.

MsTSwift · 12/02/2019 08:13

“We managed it” you sound rather humourless just a light hearted remark Hmm most names even the most innocuous can be linked to something silly/funny/unpleasant

pallasathena · 12/02/2019 08:32

It's a gorgeous name. It has character, class and charm. Love it!

Clementine is too fruity for me. Minerva isn't pretty and looks like the name of a trading estate or something.

ReaganSomerset · 12/02/2019 18:44

Sorry @MsTSwift

We managed it! Grin

Better?

PrimeExample · 12/02/2019 18:45

Clementine: the 2001s called & they want their name back

Minerva:ok!

TatianaLarina · 12/02/2019 18:56

Love Minerva.

Don’t like other eyen or even endings of Clementine, prefer Clemency.

TatianaLarina · 12/02/2019 18:56

een not even ^^

daisypond · 12/02/2019 18:58

I quite like both. I do like Clementine - it's pretty but strong at the same time - but I might be concerned that it's a style of name (Victorian/Edwardian florid) that is already perhaps on the wane and might seem a little fussy in a time of simpler names. Minerva is more left field but I like that as well.

3timeslucky · 12/02/2019 19:01

A lifetime of people humming "Oh my darling, Oh my darling, Oh my darling Clemintine ..." Nope. Don't do it!

I don't think a child will thank you for Minerva/Minnie either.

Sorry.

I LOVE Clementine, would definitely have chosen it for this baby but having another boy! It’s just gorgeous. Really really dislike Minerva, sorry! To me it’s a drug or sea witch...

foreverblessedbee · 12/02/2019 22:16

Clementine is such a pretty AND unusual name, in that you don't hear it very often. If I was ever having another child id consider it. Very prettySmile. Minerva......just no, no, no . Sorry but it sounds like a car/ people carrier or a contraceptive. If you like the nickname Minnie, why not just use Minnie? Or if you only want a nickname what about using Miriam and then using the nickname Minnie?

MsTSwift · 13/02/2019 08:48

No one has sung that song to us Grin you need to be clear whether you pronounce “teen” or “ine”. We love it more each day was our only name was reading book about winston Churchill when pregnant so kept reading that name over an over again and loved the look of it

RosyPosyToesy · 13/02/2019 10:21

Parent of an older teen Clementine (pronounced the English way 'teen like Churchill, not the American way 'tine) and nobody has ever, ever sang the song to her. I doubt she'd be able to sing it herself.

Clementine Churchill was a strong, highly capable and intelligent woman with passion and compassion. I couldn't think of a better namesake.

She was known as Clemmie too.
