Connie or Frankie?

Which do you prefer for a girl? Frankie is very popular near me but only with boys hardly any girls. The middle name will be Jean after DH’s nan who recently passed away. TIA Smile

Frankie

Ginger1982 · 09/02/2019 23:23

Frankie is terrible! Like you're trying too hard to be cool.

lottiegarbanzo · 09/02/2019 23:25

Connie is lovely. (And can be shortened to Con, if an androgynous, cool version is required).

Frankie is such a particular, boyish, forthright style of nickname - the sort that only a very few girls would choose for themselves. It suits a certain personality. It would feel to me as if you were trying to dictate her personality.

Barbarafromblackpool · 09/02/2019 23:26

I was thinking Frankie was a bit try hard cool tbh.

Bubastes · 09/02/2019 23:27

Connie to me sounds like a peripheral character in a Malory Towers book. A bit nothingy.

HeddaGarbled · 09/02/2019 23:27

I like them both a lot, but to my ears Connie Jean sounds better than Frankie Jean. Either will be just fine. What does your partner think?

Shadow1234 · 09/02/2019 23:41

I really like both, but the Connie I know gets her name shortened to Con (which I dont like), therefore I would choose Frankie.

RoseMartha · 09/02/2019 23:46

Connie

ketchupormayo · 09/02/2019 23:50

Connie! Really dislike frankie/Francesca

JassyRadlett · 09/02/2019 23:54

But if you don't like the full length version of a name and wouldn't use it why lumber a child with it????

Because the child will be an adult one day and may well be grateful to have the option to not have an unusual diminutive.

Epanoui · 10/02/2019 00:18

They are both awful unless you give the kid a real name that she can choose to use later on if she wants to. Connie probably cooler than Frankie, which has had its day and is a bit dated. Constance is great, Frances is lovely, Francesca is kind of dated and may sound a bit dull in the next few decades.

Pippathenippa · 10/02/2019 00:26

Thanks everyone for your comments although it seems pretty split down the middle! I appreciate the opinions on full versions of the names & we don’t mind Constance but we really dislike Frances/Francesca. Nothing against those names they’re just not our style, a bit dated for our taste. Concerned about the 2 comments saying Frankie is trying to hard to be cool! I can see what you’re saying & will take that into consideration. Oh god why is this so hard?! I really don’t want my kid to grow up & hate her name!

I have a Connie and i love it. I get compliments on her name all the time x (we must have similar taste as Frankie was also my second choice) Smile

Bubastes · 10/02/2019 04:09

Don't be concerned about that. 'Trying too hard' is an insult that's thrown out all the time on here by snippy people who don't like your taste in names. It's dull and predictable.

You're supposed to try hard to find a name you love.

Peachbubble · 10/02/2019 07:04

I'd choose Connie. I know two, both are Connie, not Constance.

stellarfox · 10/02/2019 07:06

I’d go with Constance nn Connie. It has a bit of a vintage chic vibe to me

TillyTheTiger · 10/02/2019 07:11

I love Constance nn Connie. Would give her more options when older if she wants to use the full version.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/02/2019 07:24

Constance nn Connie. Frankie is dreadful.

Boxerbinky · 10/02/2019 07:46

Frankie was my girl name! I had a ds though and it we didn't want it for a boy. My mums middle names was Frances so I saw it as a nod to her. I still love it - I do like unisex names though Grin

FlagFish · 10/02/2019 07:48

Connie by a mile!

E20mom · 10/02/2019 07:59

Oh neither, sorry.

YouSetTheTone · 10/02/2019 08:46

A vote for Connie!
I sometimes work with a very lovely and cool Frankie but for some weird reason EVERY TIME I use her name/ hear it said it jars with me. It shouldn’t as it does suit her but... I think I just find it ‘very’ masculine in the way I don’t find other unisex names like Charlie/ Max/ Alex.

Also know a great little Connie, about 8, and have realised what a lovely (and pretty unusual without being weird) name it is.

If you like the ‘ie’ ending what about Annie?! I know an Anya nn Annie and love it.

WoahThereMama · 10/02/2019 08:51

Connie is nice. Frankie is awful imo.

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/02/2019 13:46

Connie

CloserIAm2Fine · 10/02/2019 16:00

My first choice would be Frankie short for Francesca

Then Connie

Not Frankie as a stand-alone name for a girl.
