Whitney, Alexa, or Lexi???

Good evening!
Hubby and I are currently down to three choices: Whitney, Alexa, and Lexi. We adore all three of them, but just don't know which one should be it.
The problem is, she has an older brother named Alex, so we think that it would be really awkward if we have a Alex and a Alexa.
Also, we are not sure wether to name her Alexa and call her Lexi, or just Lexi(and if we name her Lexi we can kind of avoid the Alex and Alexa thing, but we just love love Alexa and don't want to ditch it).
And we use to really think about naming her Whitney Alexa, but feel bad for using such a adorable name as a middle name.
So what do you guys think?
Ps: we really don't want new names, but thanks.

Hahahahahaha! This has GOT to be a joke post. Alex and Alexa? Hahahaha! It's the same name. Just don't do it.
Also, just explaining to DH why I was laughing so much our Amazon Alexa device went on a crazy spiel. Dont do that to your daughter.

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/02/2019 14:06

I knew a family with Michael and Michaela. Please don't do it, give your daughter her own name but preferably not Whitney if you are UK based.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 08/02/2019 14:22

I don't like either one of them, but if you are based in the US then I guess Whitney could be a better choice?

Alexa and Alex are ridiculous.

Nonameyet1 · 08/02/2019 14:44

Sorry agree with everyone else - you can not have Alex and Alexa!!!

There are so many lovely names in the world!

If Whitney is your only other choice you’ll have to go for it but Alex and Whitney do not really go.

When are you due? Do you have time for another favourite?

MikeUniformMike · 08/02/2019 14:56

Whitney - Houston/Eastenders. Not good.
Alexa - gadget. Not good
Lexi - Don't like it. Nott good.
Alex and Alexa/Lexi are too much together.

Icklepup · 08/02/2019 18:20

I would of said Alexa but you can't have Alex and Alexa! So it will have to be Whitney.

Sophronia · 08/02/2019 19:32

Alex and Alexa is a kids clothing brand.

Crunchymum · 08/02/2019 19:43

Is this for real?

You have a DS called Alex and are considering Alexa or Lexi for your DD?????

I really don't like Whitney. Anything but that. Could you, at a push, have another form of Alexa that's not quite so similar to Alex? How about Alessa? (the Italian form).

mistermagpie · 08/02/2019 20:05

Whitney is pretty awful to my ear, but maybe it is more acceptable in the US? It is really the only possible option from your choices though, so call her that.

Bubastes · 08/02/2019 20:10

Well it would clearly be madness to have Alex/Alexa, Alex/Lexi siblings. Truly.

So that leaves Whitney. Which is a bit like calling a child Kylie, just too connected to a celeb. A tragic one at that.

What about something like Elise, Alyssa, Alicia.

But definitely Whitney before Alexa or Lexi.

strawberryredhead · 08/02/2019 20:10

Whitney seems too strongly associated with Whitney Houston whose story isn’t exactly happy.
Alexa and Lexi - not with a brother called Alex.

Didyeeaye · 09/02/2019 00:07

Whitney.
Alexa with a brother Alex is a bit silly together.

MelinaM · 09/02/2019 00:13

No, just no. You can’t have children with the same name!
Whitney is awful, sorry.

Is there nothing else that you like?

TurquoiseDress · 09/02/2019 00:14

I love Alexa!

TurquoiseDress · 09/02/2019 00:17

Oh no just seen that older brother is Alex!

No, to put it politely, that combo of Alex and Alexa won't fly!

Antonin · 09/02/2019 00:44

Does Alex live with you OP, or is he a child of a former relationship who lives elsewhere?
How about Alexis? Not ideal but sounds a little different from Alex.

SemperIdem · 11/02/2019 13:15

You cannot use Alexa if you already have an Alex, that is completely ridiculous.

Whitney is hideous.

MollysLips · 11/02/2019 13:22

I'm guessing you used "Alex" for your son, because you'd always loved the name Alexa and it was the closest way you could think of to use your favourite name, because you might not get another chance?

...And then you got another chance.

You really can't add an A to your existing child's name and use it for his sibling. I know you love Alexa, but that's just wrong. Like having a son called Kevin, then calling his sister Kevina. I mean -- just no.

So you either change your son's name (Xander? His middle name?) and start putting money aside now for the years of therapy and counselling he'll need to process that in the future, or think of a different name for your daughter.

stellarfox · 11/02/2019 14:04

I don’t know if this is a wind up but if not, you really can’t have Alex and Alexa as siblings. What if she wants to be called Alex for short and not Lexi? Go with Whitney! It’s not really very common in the UK but as you’re in the US I’m sure it’s much better known. What about Xanthe - it’s quite similar?

ThriftyMcThrifty · 12/02/2019 04:17

I’d not do Alexa - even without her big brother having essentially the same name, it’s going to lead to teasing from kids who have an Alexa at home. I personally like Whitney, it’s not too common but most people have heard of it. Not at all pretentious, and has a lovely sound to it.

Decormad38 · 12/02/2019 04:31

They (except Witney) sound like those boxes Amazon and Google produce that you ask to play music etc.Sorry.

SparkiePolastri · 12/02/2019 05:28

Go for Alexa.

Definitely.

mathanxiety · 12/02/2019 05:39

You can't call anyone Alexa any more since the advent of 'Alexa'.
You can't call anyone Alexa or Lexi if they already have an older brother named Alex.

Whitney is incredibly dated. It's an 80s name.

So what do you guys think?
Short answer, I wouldn't use any of them.

CarolDanvers · 12/02/2019 05:41

Eh?!

No. None of them.
