What are your thoughts on the name Charlotte, no shortened to Charley or Lottie, just Charlotte

It’s lovely, I do like Lottie but Charlotte on its own is also beautiful

Although it’s long to write, it’s not complicated or overly long to say aloud, so may well stay as just Charlotte.

However I wouldn’t use it if you hate Charlie/Charley and Lottie (I know you’ve not said you hate them!) as she could end up choosing to go by a nickname when she’s older

WallisFrizz · 01/02/2019 20:13

I really don’t like it which is a shame as I have two Charlottes as close relatives.

stellarfox · 01/02/2019 20:44

I love Charlotte but wouldn’t use it as I don’t like Charlie and as someone else said, even if you don’t call her by any nicknames, she might choose them herself!

Timeless and beautiful.

Scandaloso · 01/02/2019 23:01

Bit dull.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 01/02/2019 23:04

It's a classic but I would be slightly put off by the fact it has been very popular for around the last 25 years so there are a LOT of them about

Most of the Charlottes I know go by their full name so I wouldn't say that it being shortened is inevitable

WrapAndRoll · 02/02/2019 01:30

No strong feelings either way. It's OK. I don't like it pronounced very deliberately, as in Shar-Lott, which sounds affected. The o should be more neutral IMO.

Schmoobarb · 02/02/2019 01:34

It was supposed to be our name for DS1 if he’d been a girl. Thankfully he was a boy as I’d gone right off it before he was born, I just found it boring. It didn’t even make the list the next time

Schmoobarb · 02/02/2019 01:44

I would much rather a timeless, classical name like Charlotte than some of the unconventional and frankly ‘made up’ names that can seem rather common.

There are other names than Charlotte you can use that aren’t made up, “common”, “chavvy” etc you know Confused

CatsPawsAndWhiskers · 02/02/2019 01:54

Really beautiful name. I like classic names and as others have said it's timeless.
