Just before you name your child, this might help,
I'm a midday supervisor at my little boys school -we are currently inundated with variations of certain names. It causes a lot of confusion (maybe parents should stick to old fashioned names and spellings!) -
Maya, Mia, Mya
Lola, Layla, Lia, Lyla
Eva, Evie, Edie, etc
Arrgghh can't cope! Lol!

There was me thinking you were considering Bren
Only if it's a Christmas baby, surely.
(I did briefly consider Petula but didn't know whether the baby would turn out any good with a hula hoop.)

In my year at school there were 7 girls called Sarah. Most of them were known by surnames/nicknames as well. The difference was, they were all spelled the same way. The problem now is that 7 children called a variation on Lily-May might spell it 7 different ways, and it's really hard to keep track so while parents have totally free choice, they need to understand that school staff aren't always being difficult or careless if they occasionally write Lilly-Mai instead of Lillie-Mae.

Tammy some of those names have decreased in popularity every year for a decade....so give it ten & they’ll definitely be dated. As for Cordelia - that’s definitely a current Mumsneter type name that could easily soar with the other trends

We have very different ideas of timeless classics Tammy. The only one I agree with is Charlotte and then you would be called ‘terribly dull’ for chosing such a ‘boring’ name when ‘there are thousands of names out there’
Bottom line is, pick a name you like-there is always going to be someone with a negative opinion, family, friends, teachers, dinner ladies. It’s your choice at the end of the day.
