I just hate it but he's adamant. Can anyone think of something along these lines I might be able to like more than Bobby?

Hahaha at the Bobby Moore thing!

On a serious note, if one parent hates the name it should be completely off the table. Like end of discussion and move on to other names - same for both parents - I wouldn't expect my dh to name baby something I liked but he hated and vice versa.

You must call him Bobby. I love it!!!
You're husband is a star.

Grin Thanks for making me smile. At least he didn't suggest Roger.

franklyshankly2 · 30/01/2019 19:11

Hahahahaha!

But also bobby is boaby in Scotland which is a slang name for a penis so without the football link it would still be a no from me.

NameAdvicePlease · 30/01/2019 19:20

He knew I wouldn't have a clue who he is. I know nothing about football! After that comment I googled it and told him he was a knob. First thing he said is "who told you?! You weren't supposed to realise I knew that would put you off" Hmm obviously!! He's still saying he likes the name but now it's definitely not happening!

Just for the commenters saying that if one parent doesn't like it the name should be out - we are operating that rule. It's just I've been the only one suggesting names! This was the first name he suggested and was really excited about it and kept saying it was the one, so I felt horrible that I didn't like it! (I don't anymore Grin)

You could always use Bobbie for a girl.
How about Patrick?

Bugger - I wish I'd kept my mouth shut now.
Please call the baby Bobby.

NameAdvicePlease · 30/01/2019 20:20

@MikeUniformMike Bobby for a boy, Mandy for a girl?Grin I'm glad you did say, I can't believe he tried to con me into that! I mentioned it to my mum since and she instantly said "you can't call him Bobby, not with your surname!" And for my mum to know means he must be well known as she knows zero about football. Men, honestly.

I had to google Mandy.
I think most people in Britain have heard of Bobby Moore.
I missed Bobby Charlton. The shame....

My DH rarely suggested any names, he just kept vetoing mine! The names he did suggest had horrible shortenings. Both DC are named my suggestions, I would try and suggest a name you like really close to due date and if he even slightly likes it he may end up going for that out of desperation Wink

Billy
Robbie
Freddie
Rory

Kokeshi123 · 31/01/2019 23:26

I think it's awful and I don't get the trend for cutesy-poo "little boy" names.

Robert is a beautiful name, and Rob is a nice shortening for a man or boy.

Kokeshi123 · 31/01/2019 23:27

And yes, "bobby" means poo in some parts of the UK. You can tell your DH that to put him off the name!

Buy him a Skye terrier.
