Etienne alternative

I’ve loved Étienne since I met a little girl with the name a few years ago.

My second dd is due imminently so it was on my short list until I looked it up and it turns out it’s not the beautiful, slightly unusual but still prounouncable name I always thought it was, but in fact is French for Stephen Grin

Any other suggestions? Looking for 2/3 syllables, prefer something classic and timeless. I also love lots of slightly unusual nature names (Celeste, Aurora) but wouldn’t be brave enough to use them.

Go!

Dieudonné - means God Given.

Gracienne (Gras-see-en), Adrienne (Ad-ree-en), Julienne..., Emilienne
Apparently Etiennette is a name.

If you like Etienne, you could use it - there are girls who are given boys names like Cameron, James etc.

Celeste is lovely though!

Dieudonné is a) a boys name and b) the name of a horrendously controversial anti-semitic comedian. it'd be like calling her roy chubby brown.

Eliette is close to etienne, but not very trendy.

I do know of an Etienna, actually, which would be the female version.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/01/2019 14:52

My apologies, @TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu - I came across the name in a book by Mary Stewart (Madame, Will You Talk?) which I suspect predates this unpleasant comedian, so had no idea it was offensive - or that it was a boy’s name (iirc, it was just mentioned once with no more details about the character).

I had no intention to offend.

Avielle (A-vee-Elle) has the same flow/rhythm to it.

It’s a female version of the Hebrew Aviel, which means ‘God is my father’.

No worries STDG, no offence taken! just giving the OP a heads up.
