Opinions on this name? Is it too associated with the dreaded Peppa?

My guinea pig is called Pepper. I adopted him, but he was named after Peppa Pig. They just spelt it wrong.

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 17/01/2019 13:43

Pepper Potts

Pepper in Annie

It's not great...

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 17/01/2019 13:50

Pepper from American horror story definitely!

slappinthebass · 17/01/2019 14:05

You can tell this forum is like 99% female. The biggest pepper (sic) is 'Pepper Potts', from the MCU and Iron man, played by Gwyneth paltrow. Likely to be a lot more popular from this. Did DP suggest it? Don't think it's bad, but every male for at least the next 20+ years will see this association instantly.

Wow, thanks for this mansplanation @Reallyevilmuffin. What on earth would women do without you?

HoustonBess · 17/01/2019 14:09

No. She'll spend her whole life having to repeat her name three times for people then getting a funny look when they finally realise she said what they think she said.
There are lots of actual names, why not pick one of those?

CreakyBlinder · 17/01/2019 14:13

There's a little boy called Pepper who lives next door to me. I find it really difficult to say without also rolling my eyes.

@reallyevilmuffin presumably you mean the type of man who is into comics Confused so not every man.

RedRiverHog · 17/01/2019 14:18

@reallyevilmuffin

Only men would think of that connection? Really? Because no woman ever has seen any marvel movies. Oh and you said Pepper was from the MCU when actually she first appeared in the 60s I believe.

Pepper's real name is Virginia if you want another idea!

Reallyevilmuffin · 17/01/2019 14:23

The MCU is omnipresent. I found it rather amusing no one had mentioned that as a person with the name as opposed to dogs/pets, and I didn't realise that connecting the much higher male to female fanbase of marvel suddenly causes it to be a big issue. Just trying to help the OP.

MsMustDoBetter · 17/01/2019 14:24

Pepper is a yappy dogs name.

RiverTam · 17/01/2019 14:26

I knew a very cute dog called Pepper, Jack Russell-Staffie cross. Cute as a button, and not yappy at all.

People-wise, Pepper Potts.

Not keen.

CreakyBlinder · 17/01/2019 14:28

I genuinely had to google MCU Grin

Magpiefeather · 17/01/2019 14:34

I thought Pepper from Annie too and I like it! An imaginary pepper to me has lots of self confidence and is determined.

I knew a 4 year old Pepper and she always introduced herself with “my name’s Pepper. Like salt and pepper, not the pig.”

Outfoxed · 17/01/2019 14:43

My first thought was Pepper Anne the 90s cartoon, so my immediate impression of a person called Pepper would be that they march in their own parade, is like one in a million, is much too cool for 7th grade, and there is no one cooler than Pepper Anne.

CarolDanvers · 17/01/2019 15:11

My 15 year old MCU obsessed ds did not make this association when I asked him what he thought of the name Pepper? He grunted “eh? No, that’s so stupid” .

RiverTam · 17/01/2019 15:12

that doesn't mean he didn't make the connection, he just didn't refer to it. If he's that obsessed he will know exactly who Pepper Potts is.

goldengummybear · 17/01/2019 15:35

The kid will have people oinking at her regularly.

MycatsaPirate · 17/01/2019 15:39

One of the dogs across the road from us is called Pepper.

Go with Pippa or Piper.

Please don't name your child after a condiment.

CarolDanvers · 17/01/2019 15:49

@RiverTam. Well I don't think I said he wouldn't know who she was did I? I said he didn't "instantly associate" it with that character as was claimed by a previous poster.

CruCru · 17/01/2019 16:32

I actually think Pepper is okay.

CruCru · 17/01/2019 16:33

I know girls called Sorrel, Saffron and Bluebell. Pepper isn’t so different.

Confusedbeetle · 17/01/2019 16:43

Knew a horse called Pepper and a dog also

Confusedbeetle · 17/01/2019 16:45

Please think about your child navigating school. make their life as easy as you can. A name they can spell and that will not attract any teasing or bullying

cariadlet · 17/01/2019 16:48

Nice name for a dog.

Not so much for a child.

CantWaitToRetire · 17/01/2019 16:51

My brother's dog is called Pepper. I really wouldn't consider it for a child because of the associate with Peppa Pig. Kids can be horrid to each other both in primary and secondary if they have something like this to tag on to.

MumUnderTheMoon · 17/01/2019 17:28

I love it
