Dominic... (Brexit-drama inspiration)

I was watching that ‘Brexit - an uncivil war’ film tonight, and it got me thinking about the name Dominic.

I haven’t heard it in a while but think I actually quite like it. Dh doesn’t dislike it (which is more than can be said for most of my suggestions so far).

The only issue is that I’m 100% a remainer and definitely not a fan of Dominic Cummings... do you think I’d always feel like I’d named ds after him?

Could especially be an issue if he ends up in hot water in the ongoing legal investigation into Vote Leave...

How about Benedict instead? Very similar!

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 08/01/2019 01:04

From your thread title I immediately thought Dominic Raab, former Brexit Secretary.

Bowerbird5 · 08/01/2019 01:09

I chose it for my fourth baby but surprisingly I had a girl. I love the name and wish I had thought of it for DS2orDS3. I have only known one at school in 25 years so not a name you come across much.

I’d forgotten about him! I suppose he was only there for 2 weeks.

So that makes two very Brexity Dominics...

I love it, but my sister has a Benjamin, so I don’t think I can!

Dominic is my favourite boys name by a long way but DH ruled it out because our surname has similarities.

Dominic Cooper is a sexy bearer of the name.

I hope you are able to use it. I am very happy with what we chose instead, and DS is now 12.

Sing the mighty Dominic’s praises!
Sing a song for her who came!
Charged to tell the gospel ti-idings.
I can’t remember the next bit
Cleansed and pe-erfect!
Cleansed and or-effect!
Suiting we-ell his ho-ly-y name!

I really like Dominic! I wouldn't let the associations put you off, they're in the spotlight at the moment but it won't be forever.

EgremontRusset · 08/01/2019 08:49

It’s lovely. And no one will remember Raab or Cummings by the time your LO starts school

minipie · 08/01/2019 08:52

Dominic hsa always been at the top of my boys’ names list. We have two DDs and are done - please use it!

BigusBumus · 08/01/2019 08:53

El Greco the famous Spanish Renaissance artist of Greek family background's first name was the Greek version of Dominic.

WolfHallster · 08/01/2019 16:55

Great name!

Who cares what gave you the idea!

WolfHallster · 08/01/2019 16:57

Getting the idea for the name from someone isn’t the same as naming your child after them.

And you don’t have to tell your ds that that’s where his name came from!

DramaAlpaca · 08/01/2019 16:58

I like Dominic, it's a good name.

Icklepup · 08/01/2019 16:58
