How’s important are initials?

Baby number 2 is imminent and we have struggled to decide on a name, mainly because we’re keen to put some ‘reference’ to family members in there, but without making it too much of a mouthful.

Finally thought we’d cracked it, then realised the initials would be OAP Surname. Not offensive, but certainly noticeable. I can’t do it can I?? (Could go with OPA Surname, but it just doesn’t sound right). Argh, back to the drawing board!

DSs have had to have initials put on sports kit but that is the only time so far that they've been used in a "public" way.

When I changed my surname to DH's my initials becane BS. I go to a lot of meetings at work and the minute takers always flinch a bit when they record actions etc for me. At first it really bothered me but now I don't care. I definitely wouldn't have liked it when I was younger though (we had to rethink DD's name because she would have been ARS or ASS otherwise).

I really don't think OAP is a problem though!

I think it also depends how much people refer to the term. OAP won't be referred to much by the age range in question. I comfort myself with the thought that no one outside MN thinks much about CF. Her school friends certainly won't know it and hopefully adults will be too polite to mention it. (Didn't spot it until after she was named Sad).
