Iris

Iris

Soggiemoggie · 07/01/2019 00:48

Iris is classic and elegant. Quite sweet for a little girl but not so sickly sweet for a grown up.

Luna is easy to make fun of so I'd steer clear! Also makes me think of a stripper's name but I'm not sure why Blush

sirmione16 · 07/01/2019 00:50

Iris! Is my GM name and is becoming so popular again, it's elegant and beautiful.

Plus I know 3 dogs called Luna Blush (actual dogs... not being mean to anybody)

mumof2andstillsurviving · 07/01/2019 00:56

Love both. My niece is called Iris. Wait until she is here and see what suits her? Have one as a middle name?

DramaAlpaca · 07/01/2019 01:08

It'd have to be Iris for me.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 07/01/2019 01:14

Iris.

Luna is a bit “Yeah my mum loved Harry Potter” for me.

Kittenrush · 07/01/2019 09:19

I have a Luna, she was born on the night of a huge super moon and it just seem to fit. It suits her so much and I love it. She’s yet to be called lunatic. I’ve never heard anyone mention it (though I suppose they wouldn’t to me) but I wouldn’t let that put you off. I’ve also only ever had one person mention Harry Potter

YouSetTheTone · 07/01/2019 10:32

Iris. It’s an elegant flower (could you use the nn Rissa if you wanted?!) and Luna starts with a ‘loo’ sound so that puts me off -same reason I don’t like Lucy, I know that is slightly irrational!
(Apparently my mum wanted to call my baby sister Lucy but I told her it made me think of ‘loo seat’ Confused - she actually listened to me too and my sister is Rosanna).

Lemons1 · 07/01/2019 10:35

Definitely Iris, it's lovely!

CheeseTheDay · 07/01/2019 12:15

Iris. I'm 100% biased though.

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 14:14

Iris. Luna is awful.

Astronica · 08/01/2019 09:46

I pick Iris.

Honeybee79 · 08/01/2019 13:46

Iris

TiccyTaccy · 08/01/2019 14:53

Luna is a very common name in Spain and has been for years. I guess because of Harry Potter it's become popular in the UK. In Spain it's got to be in the top ten, we come across loads, but in the UK it seems a popular dogs name. For that reason, if you're UK based, I would go for Iris.

Parttimewasteoftime · 08/01/2019 15:32

Iris vote here but is very popular though...
Luna yep think HP.

CarolinenotCarolyn · 08/01/2019 16:29

Iris!

CajunShrimp · 08/01/2019 16:32

Iris. Luna just makes me think that the parents must be huge Harry Potter fans which would in turn make me think they hadn’t progressed beyond a reading age of 12.
I know that’s massively rude and judgey and says more about me than anyone who has called their child Luna but I’m being honest!

Mousewithascarf · 08/01/2019 16:41

Iris. Really struggle with Luna as it always makes me think of loony or lunatic.

drth12 · 08/01/2019 19:09

Iris. Short and sweet

AlanaMay · 08/01/2019 19:29

I know one Iris (human) and three who go by the name Luna (one human, one feline and one canine).
Luna is pretty but it's not a real name, not in this country at least. It will date, I'm sure of it. Jade is the nearest comparison I can think of, came from nowhere to be wildly popular in the 1980s but now sounds awful.
That's what I say stick to Iris, a classic name with real history.

daisypond · 08/01/2019 20:32

Iris, hands down. Luna is very faddy and will date. If you want a moon name, how about the Greek goddess instead of the Roman one? Selene?

ShadyLady53 · 08/01/2019 20:38

I really dislike Luna. It sounds like Lunatic and Looney. I have a friend with a daughter called Luna who is nicknamed Looney Tune and in my friend’s accent she pronounces it “lewwwnuh”. It’s really dreadful and we all secretly hate it, even her parents and grandparents. Ugh.

AndCallMeNancy · 08/01/2019 21:50

Iris - the most beautiful name! (Also biased)

Yidette86 · 08/01/2019 21:57

I personally wouldn't go for Luna as it sounds more of a pets name imo
