I am currently expecting a little girl and I am in love with the name Freya (her middle name will be Rose) but everyone I have told has said they hate it! I already have Dylan, Noah, Isabelle-mae and Olivia (hope this isn't outing) other than Freya the only other name I like is Evelyn or Evie, her middle name will be Rose regardless of first name.
Why are so many people not keen Freya?

Freja will get called Fredge-ah. Stick with Freya.

Peachesandcream30 · 06/01/2019 16:50

I think it's a bit faddy and mediocre. There will be 5 in her class and in 20 years it will be like a "Sharon" or a "Donna" name

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/01/2019 16:54

Freya is fine.

ashtrayheart · 06/01/2019 16:56

I have a 22 year old Freya, was unusual then Hmm
Which goes to show it makes no difference really, what’s original now might become very popular in 20 years time for other names Grin
I still like the name, obviously.

Willow1992 · 06/01/2019 16:57

Since I heard the etymology of Freya from the Norse goddess I always thought it was a really cool, strong girl's name. Smile

I love the name Freya. I also love Evie.
Both names are around a lot now so it depends how you feel about that? I have a a teenage Oliver and there’s always another Oliver everywhere we go, in sports clubs, schools etc. Think it’s a bit annoying for him

SpeedyBojangles · 06/01/2019 17:06

I like the name Freya, it's lovely. Popular though (3 kids in DC's class)

I have an Evelyn Rose so may be biased but that's the best one Grin

SweetAsSpice · 06/01/2019 17:09

Beautiful name. I know one and she's one magical human Smile

Also like the old norse spelling Freyja.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/01/2019 17:13

DS2's best friend. Love it.

If you want to name your kid after a goddess of sex and fertility then go ahead...

ForAMinuteThere · 06/01/2019 17:26

It's lovely. I think it's like the Rachel of this generation (I like Rachel too).

But op... I know three Freya Roses. And several more Freyas where I don't know middle names. It does go nicely with your others though.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 06/01/2019 17:35

I love the name Freya.

youarenotkiddingme · 06/01/2019 17:47

I like the name and know a lovely girl (teen now) called Freya.

Shadow1234 · 06/01/2019 19:44

I really like it - and only ever met one (who is now 17). I do think it depends where you live, as to popularity, but as you have already said that wouldnt bother you too much, then I think you should go for it.

Yidette86 · 08/01/2019 22:08

I like the name myself but it's so popular and we avoid common names.

My friend has called hers Freyja which is the norse way of spelling it.

Beeziekn33ze · 08/01/2019 23:36

Lovely name, so is Astrid.
Astrid Rose?

Ngaio2 · 08/01/2019 23:41

I love Freya and know a really lovely woman in her 20s called that.
I don’t like Evie which is really just a diminutive of Eve or Evelyn etc. It may suit a young girl but not so suitable for a grown woman.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 09/01/2019 01:06

I love Freya! Reminds me of some sort of majestic Queen of Ice & Snow. I've never met one, but I live in the U.S.

Good luck & Congratulations! Flowers
