Can you rate my list please, what would you choose?
Eva
Eliza
Evelyn
Matilda

Samuel
Alexander
Benjamin
Joseph

Wouldn’t want to shorten any of them but understand this may be inevitable when they reach school age.

Love Mathilda

DippyDuck123 · 07/01/2019 08:48

Eliza and Samuel.

I also love Alexander

Sexnotgender · 07/01/2019 08:50

Not wild on any of the girls names but love the boys except Joseph.

RedDwarves · 07/01/2019 08:53

Matilda for a girl.

I love all of the boys names, but Samuel is my favourite.

mummyhaschangedhername · 07/01/2019 09:13

I have a Samuel, or Sam. There us another in his class and several in the school (primary it less than 300). Doesn't bother me or him though. But of course the popularity of a name can depend on the demographic of the area.

NanooCov · 07/01/2019 09:36

Evelyn and Alexander. Though inevitably Alexander will be shortened.

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 07/01/2019 10:15

Evelyn and Benjamin.

I had Eve for a girls name. But I wasn't sure as too many Avas, Evas etc at the minute.

Also had Joseph in boys list. Though it was definitely top of the most popular lists last year.

4littlewhirlwinds · 07/01/2019 10:30

Alexander for a boy but i’m biased because i have one.. quite like Evelyn for a girl but how about Everley?

Racecardriver · 07/01/2019 10:33

Matilda or Alexander
Eva too common
Evelyn is a mans name in my mind (I know it’s unisex but always find it masculine).
Dislike Eliza, Benjamin and, joesepg (just a personal preference though)
Samuel I have no feelings about.

PepsiLola · 07/01/2019 10:37

I want a Benjamin so that's a winner for me. I know you said you don't like them being shortened and that is fine you don't have to, but you have to be ok with the names it can be shortened to.

Teenagers and nicknames, every kid ends up trying to change their name somehow!

Benjamin, Ben, Benji... I don't mind any of them.

Matilda is my girl choice from your list

katy1111 · 07/01/2019 13:28

I love Matilda! That would have been my choice if I'd had a girl. Out of your boys names I prefer Joseph and Alexander.

ReaganSomerset · 07/01/2019 13:39

Eva- Eeeeeevaaaaaa? Wwwaaaaalleee!
Eliza- Dolittle.
Evelyn - fine
Matilda- DH vetoed this with our DD because it's the name of a house robot in Robot Wars Hmm

All fairly weak associations, so I doubt any trouble would be had with any. To rank them - Matilda, Eva, Evelyn, Eliza

Samuel
Alexander
Benjamin
Joseph

Personally, I'm not a fan, though none are actually objectionable. I like Alexander best out of them, but know a lot of them personally so wouldn't use it myself.

Friolero · 07/01/2019 13:49

They're all nice names, but I particularly like Eliza from your girls list and Benjamin from the boys list. I like Alexander too, but more as a middle name.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 07/01/2019 13:54

My dd is Evelyn so obviously I love it. Also love Matilda
For a boy Alexander or Benjamin.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/01/2019 14:51

Eliza and Benjamin

ReaganSomerset · 07/01/2019 17:04

Oh, also the pronunciation thing with Eliza. I worked for years with an Eliza pronounced Eh-leez-ah. But there's also E-ly-za, which I think is more common.

Picknickers · 07/01/2019 22:58

Joseph is gorgeous. Out of the girl's probably Eliza

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 07/01/2019 23:04

Eva and Samuel

Lemurville · 27/01/2019 18:38

Evelyn my favourite if you're pronouncing it the English way (eve-lyn) as I used to know a witch lady who pronounced it the Irish way (eva -lyn)! All boys options similar but Benjamin and Joseph my favourites if you're not going to shorten. IMHO you do need to like the shortened versions though in case people do shorten them without being asked. People do what they want! x

Shadow1234 · 27/01/2019 19:08

Matilda and Alexander

HappyGoLuckyGo · 27/01/2019 19:13

Eliza and Alexander, but for some reason I feel like Joseph is the boys’ name most likely to not get shortened, from your list.

mumtobabygilrl · 27/01/2019 19:28

I love Evelyn it was on our list too when expecting my DD. I'm not too keen on Evie but if you plan not to shorten it's my favourite of your choices. Matilda is also lovely but people will use Tilly even if you don't and that I'm not so keen on. Benjamin and Alexander are also both lovely. You have some really good names to choose from here

aliceelizaloves · 27/01/2019 21:21

All lovely. My favourites are Matilda and Joseph.
