Hi! I need ideas for baby girl , I'm Greek and husband is German and we live in the UK. I'm trying to find a name that will be easily pronounced in all countries plus be nice and a little unique. My list so far is:

Eva
Amelie
Alexandra
Josephine
Christina
Naomi

But I dont completely love any of these! Naomi maybe a little more than the others but it is pronounced Nah-o-mee in greece and germany and Ni-o-mee in the Uk or Nay-oh-mee by americans- so a bit confusing if I call her wrong!

Which name do you like ? And any other ideas?

What about something classical or from mythology like Artemis (or Artemesia - l love that), Hebe, Athena, Demeter, etc? You've got lots of lovely and unusual names to pick from

Good idea. I really like Phaedra or even Juno.

Hezz · 02/01/2019 23:21

Ava or Antigone?

JellySlice · 02/01/2019 23:21

Eva is not unique, sorry. I know four 6yo Evas in one class at school!

How about Abigail, Ellen/Elena/Ella, Hannah, Iona, Lucy/Lucia, Zoë?

German friends have named their daughters Frieda and Mathilda, they said neither are popular in their region as they are considered old lady names. (I guess in the same sense as Martha, Elsie, Florence)

What about one of the variations of Elizabeth or Mary in Greek\German

Ava or Antigone

Ava has also been done to death in the UK.

Antigone is lovely but so much scope for mispronounced and it's hardly the happiest story (neither is Phaedra, Jocasta , or Iphigenia for that matter. Ariadne eventually gets a happy ending. Dido and Eurydice probably best avoided)

IClavdivs · 02/01/2019 23:36

@eiche: Trouble is, some of those came to such a bad end that the names do have bad connotations.

I know it's pathetic, but I always do worry about tempting fate.

villageshop · 02/01/2019 23:37

Imogen
Euphemia

Callista - Greek for most beautiful.

Most of them - apart from Penelope and Ariadne and it wasn't a bundle of laughs for them either although it ended well.
